RIP Burt Reynolds
We lost Burt Reynolds today. The late 70s, early 80s heartthrob handsome actor was a big screen mainstay for years. Starring in various comedies like Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run, yet proved himself in 1972s Deliverance as a serious actor. His appearance in "Biggest Little Whorehouse in Texas", 'The Longest Yard', 'White Lightning' to his Spaghetti Western attempt in 'Navajo Joe'.
But his unmistakable laugh was always a highlight. And he came in the time of the Citizens Band Radio (CB Radio) phase in the late 70s and the search for Black Trans Ams to cruise with.
I remember seeing loads of the "Bandit" Trans Am cruising Speedway in Tucson, Burt made the car a must have hit like the Steve McQueen 68 Ford Mustang or the Dukes of Hazzard 69 Dodge Charger the General Lee (Now fully viewed as verboten by SJWs).
But Burt was once offered the role to play James Bond by Alfred Broccoli himself, but said "Bond MUST be British , not played by an American.
Tonight I think I'll pop in Smokey and the Bandit with either Deliverance or Longest Yard as a nightcap.....or maybe Cannonball Run.

Sadly, yes. We've lost a lot of really big names back in the real world over the last few years, both in and out of Furry Fandom, and it's not a good day on that note. I'm still thinking of Vicky (Wyman) and Mavra (Cary Mijo), who both went Upstairs to continue their work not all that long ago. I didn't know Mav personally, but it was rare I heard anything poor of her from others; I wish fate and time might've allowed us to meet, but if she was even a quarter of the person she was in presence on FurryMUCK over the years I've been there, I'm sure some of my journeys were touched by hers. And Vicky was both an exceptional artist and one heck of a kind person to this pup, who had been a great fan of her work in Tales From The Floating Vagabond, and her excellent Xanadu in all its incarnations over the last thirty years, going all the way back to the early 1990s when I got started in this whole business and then had little or no faith in my work, aside from my enthusiasm to improve. I never expected to meet someone I looked up to as I did her as an equal when I made her acquaintance here, and I'm going to miss smiling with her, even if it was just on one end of a Net connection.
Thanks kindly for posting me back, ami. It feels good to talk about this with someone this morning, now that another familiar face and far-kinsman has joined the Heavenly Ranks.

today death drives a Trans Am. been kind of expecting to hear this news. For Abouta year. He's not been in good health.if you seen him. When they did the smoky and the bandage tribute edition Trans Am. They made about Couple hundred or something like that was some special edition car. I forget how many they made there was a little program about it. I think he's signed the dashboard of some of them and it was so , sad to see him like that. Were running out of Golden age actors. Jesus what's keeping Ron Jeremy and Mark Hamill alive? Next going to be Jack Nicholson or Bill Murray or Chevy Chase or Dan Aykroyd.
For the record, the second or third James Bond movie was an American actor. If I'm not mistaken it's literally referred to as the American James Bond. Apparently the film was very badly received in that particular movie, the spy drove a American muscle car, and it was very Americanized comparison to the British films. Can't say I've ever seen it myself. It was a little footnote in a documentary about James Bond films.

I can only imagine what that must of been like it was kind of unsettling as it was watching the documentary the scenes of him signing the dashboards of a couple of the cars. Was bad enough seeing him in a wheelchair in the last couple movies that he was in and knowing it wasn't just a prop that in general he has a hard time getting around. Sometimes we forget that were getting old the other day. I've seen a picture on a friend of mines, Facebook and asked if it was some sort of a glamour shot type picture or was it an old picture from when we went to high school basically looked like her with a bit of makeup. She still looks pretty similar to when we were young. She thought I was joking and had to explain it's not an older picture or one of those airbrushed Photoshop pictures It's a picture of her daughter. Last time I seen her daughter back. It wasn't old enough to go to preschool. She's damn near 20 something now. Just kind of haunting when you hear people saying you don't see this actor or that actor and part of you doesn't want to admit it's because they haven't done anything where they're getting up there in years. Bill Murray is probably going to literally die while doing some project guy never stands still. Highly unlikely will see Anymore National Lampoon's movies with cc :(. Dawned DellaWeaver was admittedly awfully young his son was doing a lot of projects for a while but haven't seen him in anything lately. Keep expecting were going to hear something happened to Bruce Campbell. He's getting up there.
my mistake, I got the impression the guy was American and basically everything about the movie was an Americanized version of James Bond and the film wasn't well responded toit was just something they very briefly touched on touring a film documentary about the Bond films. You've got appear in mind I've seen not even half of them over the years. I keep my eyes out for the DVD box sets at yard sales. At one point somebody threw out a big DVD collection but there was only the cases for two James Bond DVD sets DVDs were not in them.I know somebody's got a make the big speech about just download them off the Internet, you wiener but they're just one of the things I'd rather have a physical copy and go through the mud couple films at a time. From the earliest forward. I've seen the Pierce Brosnan on words Bond films, but haven't really seen much before Pierce Brosnan I've seen parts of Octopussy and that's about it that I can remember you've got a remember I was super young when Brosnan played 007.always would've liked to get into acting and I'm not, why playing that character would've been a dream job, but I'm too bloody old and don't think I'm damn near good enough. The last guy who played James Bond the actor himself really gets under my skin, especially His attitude about playing the role. Don't get me wrong he did a fine job in general of laying the character. It's the guys attitude about it publicly. And he's got the nerve to do it again. They've recently canceled or are redoing a project where he was slated to play the part. Again, and he ended up being the main reason they had to shut everything down. He literally stated after the last movie making comments about killing himself rather than lay the role again and was very vocal about how he hated playing the role never wanting to do it again No matter how much money he was given Yet of course it was announced later on he be playing the role again.dr who and James Bond are two characters anybody that's really aspired to get into acting, would sell their soul to play and I can actually respect the fact Burt Reynolds turned it down makes sense. If you're familiar with the King's men movies we literally got a glimpse of what James Bond would've looked like played by Burt Reynolds in the second movie where they had a Burt Reynolds style actor playing a James Bond type character was a little bit tricky, but admittedly put a completely different slant to the character and I much prefer the British angle to an American spy.
Always remember him in this clip with Johnny Carson

"The End" starred Burt Reynolds who also directed and teamed with Dom DeLuise for the first time. Reynolds played a terminally ill man who wants to commit suicide but fails miserably with mental patient DeLuise gleefully not helping very well. It's a comedy with a great cast Norman Fell, Carl Reiner, Sally Field, Joanne Woodward, Kristy MacNichol, and Robby Benson. Funny movie even with the dark subject matter. RIP
By sheer coincidence, I got to meet Burt Reynolds for the first (and only time) in the late 1970s, at the PBS studio in NYC, when he appeared on "The Dick Cavett Show" to promote "The End". And I know that somewhere - amongst the clutter in my condo - I have his autograph on the ticket stub for the taping of said show...
R.I.P., Mr. Reynolds...

Y'know... when I first heard the news thru journals... then saw yer original memorial I'd saved it like usual even b'fore I caught the date error... an saddened tho I am still by the news'a his passin'... I kinda like ta think he an Dom are up there chucklin' an addin' that ta their SatB movie outtakes... Really gonna miss ya Burt {:)
As I recall, one of the last times Burt and Dom worked together was on one of the earliest episodes of the Adult Swim stop-motion animation series "Robot Chicken" (in a "Cannonball Run" parody, that included 'Batman & Robin', 'The Dukes of Hazzard', 'Mario & Luigi', and other racers). They even threw in audio outtakes of the duo during the closing credits. It's worth a look-see, one more time...
My mother used to work for Pontiac in Tucson when they finished Smokey and the Bandit and were doing Cannonball Run. He came into the dealership and bought 5 of the Pontiac Trans Ams from that dealership and my mother was all swoony over meeting him. We later showed up during the filming of Cannonball Run 2 where she got to meet him again. :)
My personal favorite Burt Reynolds movie, believe it or not, was "Paternity" - just to show he can be funny without performing wild stunts or driving cars.
Shot in NYC, I will always remember that scene (at the start of the film), when he was feeding peanuts to squirrels, for the entertainment of the children in Central Park.
There will never be another performer like Burt Reynolds. He will be missed...
