While Melee and Sharon manage to hit it off with each other when they first met, the two eventually go their separate ways and it's years before they meet up again. The reunion... wasn't as warm as one would hope, as Melee soon realizes the cheery peasant girl he met in that quaint village all of those years ago is now an adult with an aggressive streak and doesn't really have much to be cheerful about these days. It... puts Melee in a rough place, as reaching out to her only seems to make her angrier and angrier every time he opens his mouth. He manages to convince Sharon to stay for the night, but by that point Melee is wondering if it was worth the effort...
I've been wanting do a drawing of my two characters interacting for awhile now. I keep talking about the friendship Melee and Sharon have, but I've been failing to show off that interaction. Yes, I've commissioned an artist or two to draw them together in the past, but that's expensive and I'm not made of money. Besides, if I'm serious about wanting to improve my skills as an artist, I should be the one drawing these interactions if I want to establish anything. They're my characters, after all.
This drawing... gah, this thing took so many attempts to get down. I started on... Saturday (Sep 29th), I think? I spent days trying to get this right... I must've went through four or five cardboard scraps, discarding each one because there was something that just didn't match up and was far too messy to warrant sharing (usually either Sharon's face or Melee's hands). This rendition is... still pretty messy. Melee's hands in particular are quite rough, but at least you can tell they're hands in this one and I could probably fix it up in Photoshop if I felt so inclined. Same with Sharon's face; the muzzle and mouth region are a little off, plus Sharon's eyes should be pointing a little further upward, but all of this is fixable.
I was really pleased with my ability to keep trying with this drawing despite struggling with it repeatedly. I mean, the final result is rather flawed, but at least it's worth sharing compared to the previous tries. I really wanted to do something involving two characters interacting, as I felt getting something down would've really helped me take another step forward as an artist. Not only that, this drawing also helps show off the personality differences between squire Melee and outcast Sharon. There's still much for me to learn, but I think this helped me take another step towards improving my craft. Perhaps I should consider renaming this series at some point?

Part of my "Trash Drawing" series, in which I utilize the quieter moments of my day job to make rough sketches using whatever materials I have on hand (pens and cardboard scraps). Due to the materials used, the canvas being a literal piece of garbage, and the often hasty nature of these drawings, I have taken to calling them "Trash Drawings." I might change the name of this series in the future, however, given how these sketches are growing increasingly elaborate and colorful over time.
