Envy ~ 7 Deadly Sins
YCH 4/7 for
Valachko
"It began with pride in his winnings, a form of sin first innocent, until vain. The flowers and the cheers and the promises of carts upon carts of sweets and treats led Valachko to grin and gloat and think to himself, 'I deserve this. I deserve every second, I deserve every pound.'
But, soon those thoughts turned as the two carts overflowing with fresh-baked goods started to appear the day after, promised to return refilled every day for the next week. 'Deserve' turned to 'want' and 'need' as eyes grew bigger than stomach and stomach grew, too. 'I want this. I need this.' Greed tickled his sweet-scented breath. 'I deserve this' became 'I deserve more'.
The life of a winner filled his heart and his belly with warmth such that his cheeks grew round and red and his eyes big as the world. A gummy bear, tall as he but so much unfortunately slimmer, made greed for more become desire. What a beautiful treat it was, and he drooled at its translucent perfection. He wanted to savor it, but it was irresistible. The lust for that gelatinous bear made red cheeks darken and the tips of his ears burned bright. 'You will be mine, my beauty. You will be mine.'
The next day, Valachko waited at his door for the next supply. Though he waited in feverish denial for hours, it did not come. A week was up. His hotel room was littered with the remains of his haul; crumbs and frosting smears decorated the walls and furnishings, and empty bottles and wrappers lay idle on the floor. He ventured out as his spoilt gut rumbled for more. At the bar, one serving did not satiate, and once finished, Valchko couldn't help but notice how tasty the next patron's dish was looking. It made him feel almost angry.. but the emotion stirred in a different color. Green envy, raw and sour, swelled in his breast. 'I want that. I want theirs, I want more.'"
