A NEW SEMI-OPEN SPECIES!!!
Springlings are creatures that live around bodies of water. They spend most of their time almost fully submerged aside from their head, which has grown to perfectly resembles the animals of the area that might you might find going for a swim. Their body will always be in proportion to the size of their head, so you won't find one with a raccoon head the size of a bear, vice versa, etc. The head will always perfectly resemble the base animal, while the body can have whatever colors, but most commonly they will match the colors of the head (like shown above).
They store water in their tail, about their body weight's worth, and can either store it for when water might be scarce, or can spit it out at boiling temperatures as a means of defense. if their tail is thin it is a sign that the Springling in question is either sick or has not had access to water for a long time.
Their back feet are webbed with large pads for easy swimming or walking along the bottom of the water, while their front feet have five fingers with an opposable thumb and can have either claws or nails.
Sprinchlings (pronounced like sprinklings) are baby Springlings, they hatch from soft eggs that are laid underwater, when they first hatch they have very neutral colors compared to what they could have as an adult, and their heads are more uniform. Their hind feet are less padded, and their tails cannot hold lots of water yet. They remain fully submerged until they are matured and their heads have come to resemble an animal. They are able to breath underwater until they have fully matured and have developed lungs.
The mammals line of the species is OPEN!
This means you can make a Springling with a mammal head for free!
The Avian line of the species is CLOSED!
This means you cannot make your own with the head of an Avian!
The head of a Springling will ALMOST ALWAYS resemble the head of an animal that can swim. If it cannot swim, consider it CLOSED.
Note: Amphibians, reptiles and serpents are NOT part of the species, open or closed
