Lexi started off life as most people do. As a human. Even as a kid, she had a keen interest in palentology and wanted to learn more about dinosaurs. Well, she stuck with it. graduating college and becoming an intern at the Royal Ontario Museum. Even if it was just an internship and she was mostly acting as the gofer for the lab, she still got to walk behind the scenes at the museum, and see the actual dinosaur bones up close and not just the plaster casts that were on display. She had no idea how much her life was going to change when she heard that they had discovered a nearly complete skeleton of an Allosaurus fragilis. but not only that, but this one was partially mummified to boot, giving clear skin impressions! Not only that, but soft tissue had been detected. it was almost too good to be true.
While she had no involvement in the soft tissue extraction, she was the one to carry it from one lab to the next. The fragile glass container held a secret that nobody had been aweare of. an anchient pathogen. similar to a virus, but different. far larger. As she looked at the material inside, she didn't notice that someone had left something in her path. It was insignificant, really. Some kind of mineral that had fallen off something. She stood on it, and instantly lost her balence. With the impact, the fragile glass of the specimin shattered, cutting into her skin as she struggled to not let her clumsyness contaminate the sample. Rushing, she completed her delivery and called it a day before anyone noticed the blood.
Deciding to stay home in her apartment, she called in sick, not wanting to be found out for destroying a sample and having to have the others start all over again. Taking a week off, it was then she began to get sick for real. Usual illness stuff. sore throat, runny nose, pain, feaver, etc. But a few new symptoms had made themselves known. A hunger for... meat and itchyness. particually on her hands. The transformation was slow to start. eventually she furiously scratched her skin raw only to find what lay beneath. scales. Changes to her eyes confirmed that something seriously bad was happening to her. She refused to leave the apartment while her body mutated. Somehow the pathogen the allosaurs had migrated its way into her body and began to replace parts of her own DNA with that of the dinosaur. something that should not have been possible. Yet here it was. And her body progressivly morphed. becoming less and less human and more saurian. toes merged into three clawed feet, a tail, her face, a spinal ridge along her back, her hair being competly forced from her head...
by the end of it, she was more or less herself. her mind was still fully there, but with some new pradatory instincts. a hankering for red meat when before she was a vegetarian. enhanced senses that give her a migraine most days when she's in the city, but still overall Lexi.
