Asheru and the young Lord back to Back.
Asheru and the young Lord in a tense situation. Asheru is in her usual kit with sword drawn and poignard (dagger) in a reverse grip as a shield. The young lord is in a plastron over chain shirt combo, with his spatha drawn. You can see, that Asheru can get snarly, too.

When I was in baton training for the Monadnock PR-24 (basically a nightstick with an extra handle at a right angle to the shaft) they taught us to use it that way as a shield. Later, when I had knife training, we got pretty much the same lesson with daggers, fighting knives and bayonets.
Those handled nightsticks borrow a lot from the Tonfa, so a martial artist with the appropriate weapons form can do amazing things. I watched a veteran SFPD officer handle one and it was like magic. I imagine that Asheru would do knife tricks at the campfire, though probably not Arya Stark level (that hand switch when sparring with Lady Brienn was jaw dropping).
I got pretty good with the Monadnock, but they made us turn them in when we made Armed Guard. I got pretty good with a .357 after that. Not great, but pretty good. I don't know if I'd survive a knife fight 35 years later, but I've had the training, and the clod on the street threatening me with a switchblade didn't..
