Lest We Forget (Guelph Pipe Band - Col. John McCrae Museum)
As this is the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day, I thought it more than appropriate that I should be at the McCrae House Museum (i.e. the Col. John McCrae* birthplace national monument) in Guelph, Ontario to mark that moment. The Guelph Pipe Band was scheduled to play 'The Battle's Over' at 06:00 (which corresponds to 11:00 in France), to mark the exact moment that the Armistice went into effect.
The event was originally supposed to be outside, on the grounds, and I had intended to take full video and photographs, but at the last second, the event organisers decided to move it inside, which made it all sardine-packed, and I was forced to take video from down a hallway, and over an old lady's woollen hat. However, I got full audio, at least, and managed to get a still photograph of the band about a minute or so after they had finished playing. The video file is too large to upload, alas, but I have attached the photograph.
To say it was a profound moment would be to understate things.
Information about the event is HERE:
*Col. John McCrae, for those who are not aware, was a soldier, medic and poet, who wrote one of the most famous wartime poems in history, namely: IN FLANDERS FIELDS
