Long time ago I was used to do this kind of stuff, you may take a look at my deviant SFW gallery if you wish, there is a bunch of league of legends champions made with this technique, which is pretty much a visual synthesis with some personal touches, but it seems that those are nowhere near to this if we talk about quality, I think I got a little better.
