Don't bother training it completely away, that sort of accent implies trustworthiness and honesty in a business setting in addition to being attractive to many. Keep some of it, just don't say "warsh" instead of "wash."

I have the same "non-accent" that you have, the one where no one can tell what part of the country you're from? Yeah, that one. Anyway, I live in Texas now and I work in a clothes store. There where these two British women vacationing in the area and they happened to come into my store. I addressed them politely, like I do with anyone else at work, and they thought it was the cutest accent and insisted that I "say more things." Bet they'd been waiting their whole trip to pull that one, lol!

Eh, I'm from Maine but over here in Washington everybody just thinks I'm from Washington until told otherwise. Then when my friends out here met my family they asked "so why is it you don't have an accent, but your dad sounds like an Australian farmer?" Only met like, three people in my life who actually had the "typical Maine accent." And I lived there for twenty-one years. =l May also be about county, though. Lived in Hancock. Has places like Bucksport, Bangor, Ellsworth, Brewer... If you've driven your truck many places in the state, figure that list might be worth something.

actually, most of my Maine visiting happens in Hollis Center, Poland Springs, and Portland
and in two of those cases it's way back in the woods and I only get to talk to the shipping office

Ah, lived hours away from Portland... Don't know the others. Bucksport was right near the coast, that bend in Maine's eastern side. Didn;t travel around the state all that much myself, though. So you've actually likely seen more of it than I did.

I know this post is ancient. But I remember years ago someone saying they found my accent interesting and I don't even HAVE one. I live in NY, but no place like Brooklyn where you can can actually HEAR someones accent. Aside from my crappy gurbled speech there's no accent to it. :P
