More like I tried something like: Adine's mother gave this scarf to her, so she could offer it to someone dear to her heart. Then she planned to give it to Amelia, but "Amelia won't need it anymore". It was clumsy, I tried to make it mysterious, but it was a big fail, as it's misunderstood.
