More from Wotan
This is another piece that explores and plumbs the wells of depression and adult angst. Most of it, like its title, is ultimately fragmentary in construction, and grew, perhaps like mildew, over a number of months. The times, when the proverbial creative muse had pretty much abandoned me, and the ‘well of inspiration’ yielded nothing but dust as dry as lunar regolith, I’d force myself to nevertheless write a few words on the scratch pads, hoping that something would spark.
Perhaps there is nothing moist and refreshing to be found here—just pebbles and dust. Nevertheless, there are also three outside references, namely Leonard Cohen’s song “Everybody Knows” from his 1988 album I’m Your Man, and the infamous “Dunning-Kruger Effect”, as well as a piece of ‘poetry’ that was carved into a desktop in 1966 at Riverside College in California, and which was later attributed to the Zodiac Killer. Beyond those things, I think I’d best let the piece speak for itself.
