Operation Log #141
> Well, we are about a week away from home, and to be really honest, I’m going to miss everything about my mission. My crewmates, the ship, and even the people we’ve met.
I’ve got Ø checking the ship’s systems, Roskuhulu, Maas, Oshiro, Lakung, Hayek, and Gorusha have gone to the Somnum Chamber, and Tafrahgel and I were the only ones who haven’t gone to sleep yet. We’ve been going out drinking simulated alcohol, discussing first contact procedures, wondering where we’ll go off to once the mission’s done, working out ways we could stay in touch, and reminiscing the worlds we’ve been to.
Tafrahgel’s already hit the sack, though, before she did, she handed me some files on my PC before she bunked down. She did say I like reading and writing about interesting things, so I’ll get to it.Hey, Bishop! I’ve got these ones for you to write about. Like, you know, thoughts and stuff. Just to spare you the pain of choosing, I selected the ones we were lucky to meet in person! Anyhow, see you a week from now! ^w^

Name: Arhkhyru
Sex: Female
Species: Northern sun wolf Demi-goddess
World: HOPE 667 c
I remember this one. We were watching an area full of tribes, collecting samples as the binary suns were setting. Next thing we know, she suddenly teleported inside our ship. We, and she, collectively shit our pants. But, it was easy for things to calm down, especially the 2 hours spent comforting her after we turned on the containment system in a panic.
She was friendly, all things considered. We recorded, obviously with her consent, her story of how her warrior-shaman father desired from a sun goddess named Arkura, a protector for his people, and someone he can love as a parent. Even after she left, I‘m still intrigued by her and her story.
There’s something about her that makes me sad but grateful that we have met her. She says she’s being lonely even though she protects her people, but the moment she met someone who didn’t treat her like some freak of nature, I think we made memories that none of us will forget.
Name: Gyhalanguja
Sex: Female
Species: Southeastern great temple naga
World: Kahojak
We encountered her as we explored a group of ruins. To say she was overprotective, is an understatement, not helping with malfunctioning SNAP equipment at the time. Tafrahgel had to talk with her both ways, like that time we met those hawk-eagle people, in doing so she slightly eased up to us, and she eventually allowed us to record her history. To put things shortly, her people’s culture involve living, surviving, and guarding in the ruins alone. Also, she’s a temple mother. Kind of made us realize why her people live solely within the ruins, and why there weren’t any men in her people.
But, we quickly packed up anyway since none of us wanted to piss off a pregnant, blade-and-spear-wielding guardswoman any longer than when we first met her.
Name: Ruohaami
Sex: Female
Species: Southwestern Haryzi buranowaya
World: HORUS 17894 d
We went down and brought a CORVUS drone to her world. This time, the SNAP system worked smoothly. We weren’t really surprised to see sourceweaving and primitech on her world, but it was interesting nonetheless. We eventually revealed ourselves to her in secret when she figured out our presence. Honestly, we didn’t expect her to be excited at seeing us. We spent, half a day I guess, documenting what she decided to tell us, from her averageness, up to including the sourcetech railgun she carries around, which is a highly regarded family heirloom.
I have to be honest, she and Researcher Maas seem to be in the type of platonic relationship that only those high-as-fuck could ever think of.
Name: Umvak

World: HORUS Æ1998
Let’s say things were pretty tense when we argued whether we should have just left him to die, or save him since we coincidentally landed near him. I’ve got to say, he was grateful when we saved his life. Then, he gave us an opportunity to explore his civilization, which we all decided was best left to a CORVUS disguised as a fish.
To put things short, since the rest of the trip was uneventful save for us saving him, his people live in tribes united by a council of kings and queens who gather yearly, and they really, really, love slicing the shit out of each other as a yearly sport.

World: FUSO-667 c
Now, all I can say is that the guys from FUSO (the Forest Universal Station Observatory) are kinda new, but the number of places they’ve found is sure as hell impressive. One of these places, was one none of us ever expected.
An entire world inhabited, not only by buranowaya, haribon, or any of the usual species we’ve encountered, but also weavers. Weavers who’ve been isolated from the multiverse for a million years, so much that Maas, Tafrahgel, and Gorusha theorized that a colony of weavers was founded here because something about the source-background of this world’s universe fucked up the natural shatter-teleport abilities of a weaver, something that forced Tafrahgel into using one of the shuttles on the way down.
At this point, none of us bothered to use our SNAPs since they already knew our presence a hundred thousand kilometers away. First contact was expectedly pleasant, with the only interesting thing about it being the one who greeted us; a one woman party. She was pleasant to interact with to be honest, being gentle and calm as Tafrahgel and I interviewed her, and taking occasional pauses in order to massage her belly. As much as we wanted to gather more knowledge, we had to cut things short because we told her of a storm that could’ve torn apart the shuttle…
…Which was obviously bullshit, since we actually scrambled out in order to kill the shit out of something that was going to really tear everything apart. When we got to the ship, I’ve managed to tell command to keep some of their eyes, ears, and guns on this place, since Tafrahgel felt and said something that none of us ever wanted to meet, until we met and killed it before it caused trouble…
…A lone light weaver Knight from the goddamned Tempest Guard.

World: HORUS 88197 d IV
We met this guy by accident since we did not intend to jump here. To put things into perspective, the previous universe’s source-background caused a glitch in the shatter drive’s navigator system, and we jumped in atmosphere, and we would have all been unrecognizable messes of carbonized ash had it not been for Roskuhulu’s vomit-inducing piloting. Since our SNAP equipment got forced into hard resets when we found out that they also somehow got affected by the previous universe, and automatic repairs to the Third Halifax would last 5 hours, we used our landing to explore the region of this planet, while having to be discreet and using old-style camouflage.
Him tracking us down and finding us would be every explorer’s death sentence, had it not been for him being a “nice”-guy of sorts who wound up being our guide. We could tell, even without Tafrahgel using a psionic probe, that he was a veteran of a war of some sort, he would look at us as if judging our every move, yet he would be concerned every time there was something amiss, and even furiously killed anything that threatened us.
Before we got back to the Third Halifax, and carefully explaining to him that we had to journey back home by ourselves only, he did something that Gorusha filmed, and made me feel a sense of military pride; he stood straight, rammed the end of his halberd into the ground, raised a clenched fist, and pounded his chest twice, and made a brief, but intimidating shout; the salute of a warrior.
Name: Kaluri
Sex: Female
Species: Dark Haribon Goddess
World: FUSO-4668 d
Not one of us on the team will ever forget her. We landed on the 4668th world that the guys at FUSO found. We read about this planet before, and we were specifically told to haul ass once anything, anyone, including her, noticed us. Everything was going normal, we were relieved that no one finally noticed us even under SNAP, and we launched drones and equipment…
…Then all hell broke loose. Too put it simply, we somehow landed in a warzone between two tribes, one with buranowaya, the other with haribon, and if you’re wondering why we didn’t immediately escape, something prevented us. We didn’t know what it was, until she came.
The battle raged as two tribes clashed, then the wind became so calmly, both sides stopped. There was the sound of a gust, and then one by one, the haribon warriors were blown apart like a typhoon wreaking havoc. Microbursts came in, hitting the battlefield and taking more lives. All the while, this hellish storm raged around everything. After the battlefield had quieted, we all looked up to see a towering eagle goddess slowly make her way down, flapping with wings strong enough to topple most trees, as if demanding all those who wanted to fight to surrender, and she was staring right at us. At this point, instincts and protocol demanded us to get the hell out of there, but her face…
A contemptuous glare, slowly gave way to a soft, sympathetic look that told us to calm down, and to leave in peace. The mission on this world was aborted anyway, but that goddess is something we all silently agreed to never forget.
Did I forget something else here? Maybe not. With our mission complete, my crew has gone to a long sleep as we approach home. This is Commander Thaddeus Bishop of the TFES Third Halifax, signing off.
Commander Thaddeus Bishop let himself sink into his seat. That was a long one, eh?, he thought.
The Third Halifax was quiet. The only sounds present were the soothing hum of the source-funnel engines, navigation corrections within the cockpit, and Ø playing with a million different songs within the mess hall, the artificial intelligence-controlled nano-swarm enjoying each different sound from the countless cultures of the crew it had considered its second family.
Bishop wondered if he should head to the Somnum Chamber, where the peaceful faces of each crewmember could be seen on the pods’ interface…
…Before deciding to take one last drink, before putting himself into deep sleep. Bishop walked through the silent halls of the ship, eventually reaching the mess hall, just in time to listen to Ø’s subjective masterpiece; an odd piece composed of Beethoven, Lapuwazon tribal music, and the entirety of Maas’ shoegaze post-rock collection. Bishop always knew the A.I. would try something like this, not that he complained, curiosity does lead to trying something new.
Bishop had gotten a fresh, printSim blue margarita and sat on a chair, enjoying his drink, the atmosphere of the mess hall, and the strange, and melodic, mixture of music Ø had created.
“Havin’ fun up there, Ø?”, Bishop directed his inquiry at a black, pulsating halo on the ceiling. The halo responded with a rapid, high-pitched chittering that made Bishop smirk, since he, and everyone on the Third Halifax, knew that meant the A.I.-controlled nano-swarm was excited.
“Okay, Ø. Don’t forget to check the ship systems while we’re off to bed.”, Bishop said to the A.I., who responded with the swarm-equivalent of a nod by making a chirp, not that it affected the A.I.’s happiness. With that, Bishop downed his drink, made a quick last-minute log check, and headed to the Somnum Chamber.
He was looking forward to get a nice, long sleep.
