I wanted to try lining up a bunch of my rabbit doodles to help me figure out the sizes I guesstimate when I visualize them interacting. Clawed Jackalopes are just... beasts! Huge beasts, rabbits will sourly refer to them as dogs, jackalopes do NOT like being called dogs usually. Rabbits tend to be very passive aggressive with jackalopes. They are born of the same mothers and fathers, it's just a pure chance draw that a rabbit will be born with random "clo" magic. (magic here doesn't have a name or noun yet, shrug) Just means they are born with some potential magical essence, typically means they are hunted for ingredients.

Clo clawed jackalopes are born the same as normal rabbit kits, you wouldn't even notice the differences except for those pointy back toes. Some warrens go generations without a clawed jackalope being born from their does, it's a very rare occurrence. Makes for special hunting as well if humans know there are jackalopes to be had. Rabbits are warned as soon as you see horns sprouting to out the kit, to let Lord Frith guide them and wish them well. Most kits never survive the first moon. Adult jackalopes found near warrens are usually asked to leave. But being so much larger and aggressive than the usual rabbit, Jackalopes will likely take territory from the rabbits.

However there are few warrens who make the exception. Some warrens make efforts to co-exist with their born and found clawed jackalopes. They become warriors, honorary owsla, charged with the task of always patrolling the territory and scouting threats. Jackalopes they can never go into the warrens physically due to their size and headgear. They live a daring lifestyle of nearly being a predator themselves. This often frightens the simple rabbits of the home warrens and with enough paranoia and fear can lead to driving out or away the jackalopes together.

Clawed jackalope's life is full of peril and is often short lived. Forced to live outside the protection of the warren and other rabbits. A hunger that is never quite satisfied. Always hunted, diamonds in the rough.

I like to imagine this magical fantasy watership down like stories happening right underneath the noses of my pony oc's who live in Cloverly-Ponies, not in town mind you but in the wilds around. I like to imagine they have a large warren near Robin Blue's home in the woods. With only a pinch of help from hoof here and there, these rabbits and this warren has thrived for many generations. Robin often sees a couple of different jackalopes on the edge of her properties. and makes note to observe the warren and learn what she can of their coexistence. She does her very best not to interfere with their wild upkeep and how they govern themselves.
