Petal ended up in the stocks after her pan flute unexpectedly created uncontrollable destructive magic and destroyed a theatre she was playing at. Instead of rotten fruit, snowballs are thrown at her, since the kingdom Petal lives in is in a snowy region.
She actually does enjoy being in a pillory. She just doesn't like having stuff like rotten fruit or snowballs thrown at her.
