Such a gorgeous automaton! How did she end up broken? The wording on the plaque is a little confusing. Will there ever be a written story as well?
I adore Philomena and hope to see more of her. She looks like a nice lady I've love to take on a date, assuming she has a mind of her own.

The wording of the plaque is referring to the nightingale story by which the character was inspired.
With a touch of common sense.
In the story a rich man was content in having a mechanical nightingale in place of the original because the song was better, but when the nightingale broke he almost died of heartbreak until the real nightingale showed up.
In reality... an automaton of this complexity could never truly work with just clockwork.

The plaque seemed to indicate that she never truly functioned. I'm guessing either it was all in the owner's head that she did work, or there was something else in her (some magical element?) that allowed her to work and seem almost alive, but that's been lost or faded over time.
As i said: "In reality... an automaton of this complexity could never truly work with just clockwork."
Part of her story it's that it's mostly about people dreaming about her working.
Even when she's supposed to work for real, once, at the end of the story... i'm not sure if i want to go with her actually working or it being something in the protagonist's head.

Yeah, this is not her canonical one, but glad we are on the same page now. I liked this design but the problem with this was that .... it showed nothing. And sorry but while this would have been more appropriate i also wanted to see "below the surface" so to speak. It would have been the whole point of a "window to the heart". I still appreciate a lot what honovy did here, but canonically, Philo's heart window looks like this now: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/32642999/ which shows what should be (essentially) her main sync mechanism that keeps everything running at the same base speed to be multiplied or divided elsewhere.
But mostly for aesthetic purposes, since it actually shows something that looks like an heartbeat. 😅

Oh, no, she's "elsewhere". So to speak. That's just her chassis with fake clockwork inside.
It all started when i wanted to retell the "clockwork nightingale" story... from the perspective of the clockmaker. So the "original" Philomela was always supposed to get broken at some point. It actually happens twice.
First time she breaks is when she literally saves her maker from his folly during the first story. The first story actually follows very much the plot of the original folk tale, except the rich man appears just once midway through when the creator is short on money. And a second time in a dream near the end. So the entire story is ... retold in a different way. So to speak.
Second time she breaks is during the second story, after she has been given to the rich guy. What exactly happens there? That is still being written. But i can tell you what we see in the museum is actually what the rich guy put there. And it's (basically) missing her "brains/engine/heart" (they are all the same thing anyway 😅), substituted by some fake clockwork.

i mean, most of my stories are sad with an happy ending of sorts. But it really depends on the audience. For now, let's see...
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....mra-Adventures this is just going to be full-on silly from the beginning to the end.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....-Moon-Children this about obsession, so sad until happy.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....anger-Newcomer this is just something experimental. Mostly neutral with sad tones.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....Madama-Mothley this is anoter full-on about overcoming a diva complex.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....Its-about-time this is a story about forgiveness so of course sad until happy.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....gging-Vasya-On this is basically a fairy tale told in a weird way. Neither sad, nor happy.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....how-Must-Go-On this is about achieving a dream and overcoming difficulties, sooo sad until happy.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....Art-And-Comics this is going to be somewhat full on silly, but also very episodical.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery...../SC0RPIA-Comic this starts silly but becomes sad pretty fast until the happy ending.

It's more like varnished steel and brass decorations over said steel... if she was porcellain she would crumble under her own weight. 😅
But thanks. Feel free to send your regards to the artist for the aesthetic choices, she did an excellent work. 😉👍💖
