“William, honey, look at me. Look at me. What happened?”
“The brat that broke the bowl-”
“Georgie Banks?”
“Yes, he & the twins showed up tonight with Mary Poppins & a man I’d never seen before.”
“Mary Poppins? Here?? Oh, good lord-what did you do? What does she know?”
“I’m getting to that. I sent Gooding to fetch a stuffed animal he brought him, thinking it might help for when we pawn his nursery items. Boy came looking for it & startled him & Frye.”
“And?”
“Well, I figured there was nothing he could do, so I simply told him his things were no longer his own. It was satisfying really, seeing the confusion & hurt on his face. But no thanks to John and Annabelle following him thus, we took him as well.”
“You took him? And under Mary Poppins’ nose??”
“We had to. The more creatures who know about our side business the worse off we are.”
“Does anyone else know? Besides Hamilton & Temp?”
“A coachman and his horse; never caught their names. They must’ve seen everything because they all followed us within seconds.”
“Anyone else?”
“…Mary Poppins, most likely.”
“Mary Poppins-Oh Lord, she practically knows everything. If she blabs, we’ll be ruined. Where are the Banks children now?”
“I threw them off my trail by causing a crack in the glaze-”
“YOU WHA-”
“N-Now, now, darling, listen-listen to me…Take a deep breath.”
“…”
“Now, that coachman probably told Mary Poppins, because when I saw them fall off the edge-calm down, dear; let me finish-I saw them float away with the items we weren’t able to take with us. I heard her say that they’re taking us to a cousin of hers to get our bowl mended.”
“What’s going to happen to us? We’re going to lose everything.”
“Maybe, but maybe not.”
“What do you mean?”
“The coachman & his horse didn’t get a good look at me or Gooding or Frye. And Mary Poppins is always so busy tending to children. Whenever she fixes their problems, she always leaves, yes?”
“True.”
“Her visits with us are never long, & we don’t see her much anyway. With a few carefully chosen words, & certain choices at the right time, I think I may know a way to make sure no one finds out about tonight. And I highly doubt the children or that man-”
“Jack.”
“Jack will be back without Mary Poppins’ help anytime soon. Just follow my lead for the time being? Do you understand?”
“…William, are you sure you know what you’re doing?”
“Trust me, my love.”
…
Banter between my Mary Poppins Returns OC, Edina Goldburn, & her wolf-man, William Weatherall "Wolf" Wilkins. While she helps him plan out what they should do next, Georgie sits in the nursery & reflects on their encounter & the following fiasco that sent him & the twins literally over the edge.
