Seen here at parade rest holding his trumpet, bulldog Bradley Deggins is the brass section leader of the marching band that plays for COTS, or Circus of the Superstars. Here's the bio on the dog:
Bradley Deggins Bio
Name: Bradley ("Brad") Deggins
Species: Gray bulldog
Alternate name: none
Original hometown: Washington, D.C., USA
Current hometown: Washington, D.C., USA
Secondary hometown: Wildcat City, Kansas, USA
Age immortalized by CNG: 29
Circus occupation: Trumpter, and brass section leader of the marching band
Second occupation: Composer and arranger, writer of books on the subject of music; participant in the musical payroll system.
Former occupation: He was a trumpeter with Pershing's Own (The US Army Field Band) for a time before joining the circus.
Circus clothing: Orange drum major's uniform with matching shako (with white plume and silver musical notes as symbol), black pants with golden stripes down pant legs, golden stripes across chest, and golden epaulettes with stars. He pads (goes barefoot), but he will wear the shoes if needed.
Other clothing: Black suit and tie combination with black pants, sometimes wears t-shirt and jeans, but he always pads unless he must wear shoes. Likewise, he does this with his own customized uniform based on the uniforms of Pershing's Own.
Background info: From his early days as a puppy, Bradley loved the heroic fanfares and sounds that come from a natural or keyed trumpet, and sought to play it. He played the trumpet through elementary, middle, and high school, but sometimes it got him into trouble because he'd play it to bother people, or sometimes his excessive barking from anger issues would come into play. Either way, he never stopped playing the trumpet. Even in punishments where his parents said he couldn't play it, he'd play it if he was home alone by himself. (Somehow, he never got caught.)
His parents gave him the idea to enlist in the US Army to shock him into good behavior, but it backfired on them when the papers got all mixed up, and his dad ended up in the army instead; the subsequent mix-up caused him to lose his computer programming job. After Bendraqi was revealed to be the cause of the mix-up, all was forgiven, and Brad was entered into the army, with his dad getting his job back alongside a raise and promotion. It was later revealed that Brad had conquered most of the behavioral problems, and he made the remark that "being in the US Army almost gave me a taste of my own medicine with the way they were bellowing at me." (Brad had a tendency to lose his temper at those who angered him.)
Brad's exposure to CNG came while he was a member of Pershing's Own, and he worried about how the military would react to somebody that lived forever and still served his country for a long time. But he served for a few more years after that, especially after talking it out with the authorities. At the time of his retirement, he wanted to still be able to play his trumpet on the march, because "marching music is the best music there is; I know I sound like Leo the Patriotic Lion or somebody who thinks like that, but I do think that." COTS, or Circus of the Superstars, then came to Washington, D.C., and they announced job openings for a new brass section leader. After auditioning with several others, Brad got the job.
Brad enrolled on the musical payroll system to help him continue to pay the bills, as well as join the organization ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers).
