I Love Music! #8: Playing for Change, or How Innovation Cont
FA's back up, so it's time for a new ILM, wherein I use big words like "deconstruct" without irony and mock Fallout Boy for no reason. Also can't say "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix", but I didn't leave that part in. And I talk about hot valkyries, wtf. Just a hair over 10 minutes, first in a while.

Thanks a lot for the mention, I'm glad you enjoy them :) It's true that metal is a difficult genre to make sound... good, electronically, because it's based so much on instruments that lose a lot of their feel without a human playing them. The MOD file type lets you use samples as instruments, so it's a small step up from raw MIDI, but it's still something that people 'get' or they don't. In my own artist description I say something rather similar to what you said, that you could think of them as prototypes or computer conversions of 'real' songs or something.
My brother recently showed me a site similar to the one you described, where independent artists are interviewed and do an acoustic performance during a three-minute London taxi ride - I can't remember what it's called, "cab sessions" or something?
"Powerwolf", what a name - power metal does itself no favours, really :) I didn't think I'd like them from their rather black-metal image on their site, but the songs I'm listening to on Youtube just now sound pretty good... they're at that uncomfortable place where you can't really tell whether they're actually taking themselves seriously or not, even with songs with names like "Resurrection By Erection". I don't think I can think of a better comparison than Judas Priest either, though the vocals remind me a bit of Blind Guardian and a bit of Piet Sielck of Iron Savior/very early Helloween.
I'd also forgotten how good Heaven Can Wait was :)
