It's a long swim, through an ocean. They're not THAT good. Plus the collar, it's very difficult to remove and it marks her as belonging to the gilded collar. The closest landmass to the Isles is Kolluk, they regularilly trade slaves with the Isles. So she would simply be returned, and punished harshly for the escape attempt.
Exactly. The Slaves of the Isles don't all have it so bad. Karrah is content enough, she's allowed some freedom to roam the isles in her free time, is fed and gets medical treatment should she need it. She has a decent place to sleep as well. She's working towards buying her freedom.
