That is a very surprising concept. How did you come to it

Heya,
the idea for my book is, to centralis country with the same culture or language origin. The member country of the Latin republic are Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Greece and the minor stats like San Marino.
The flag should provide a symbol of each major nation. Greece becomes the background, because of there great ancient past, the Italians become the roman eagle that holds the flags of Spain and Romania. All important country are represented in a way that should make them happy.

I didn't say that it will be one massiv country. Bulgaria, Serbia etc etc will be member of an other centralis country.

hmmm I see. As a political science and international relations student this is one very bold idea. Funnily enough, Greeks are closer culturally with other Balkan nations and Turkey, than with Italy or Spain or Portugal.

Really? I made them member of the latin group because many stuff of the romans are based of the greeks. So I thought that would be more fitting to have the "father" of the romans culture in the latin union.

Yeah actually xP. Ancient Greek and Roman culture have seen MASSIVE changes and each different. Greeks received anatolian culture by the inclusion of eastern roman provinces in syria, lebanon, egypt and asia minor, whereas the Romans received from the Longobards and central european hordes

Sure, massive changes. Italians today havent much in common anymore with the romans.
With the flags I did want to pass the history path. If you would take it up to todays culture .... Italy, Spain, Portugal and half of america would be the Latin union xD

Well I dont have a problem to put the greeks to the balkan troop. Haven't decide for a name yet, either the Danubian Federation or the Yugobalkan Republic, First is a historic name, while the second is fantasy.

The only thing I'll say is that to kind of carry on with the topic of Greece and what it resembles is that your flag is literally it. Greece despite being a nation in the Balkans is mostly pointed out as a European country. Reason being despite some similarities in religion with a few countries such as Serbia and Romania perhaps Albania also and some foods and food names from Turkey is a really Mediterranean country. If anything I'd say Greece resembles Spain plenty, Italians too but it's more or less a different Spain. Culture wise, food, people, climate, way of life and such. Spain, Greece and Italy are quite alike.

Well I personally count greece to the latin country. I mean... they was the ground for the roman culture and the roman culture was the ground for the modern latin culture. In my opinion. ... I hope I'm not too wrong about that.
