Everyone's all shocked at the last panel, but I'm more shocked at the first. Pietrek's dad looks a little Ulisses shaped and color. Not saying they're related, but maybe Pie has daddy issues and that's what attracted him to Ulisses.

That's a very interesting theory tho!
It's funny to see you mention Pietrek's father colors, because all their colors are things I chose for a reason! Pietrek inherited his mother's colors and bodytype, which always bothered his father for making him look "less masculine". Also Hans is very self conscious about his own appearance because he looks way too much like his father, especially color wise.

Interesting, so neither of them got to feel ok being themselves. I'm so hooked on this comic, I look forward to seeing what unfolds!

Even if he knows some of his past experiences aren't normal or healthy, he ended up normalizing a lot of bad memories since at the time he couldn't help it or run away and nowadays he can't do anything to change them, so he prefers to look at them as old scars he can't cure. Just like he did in DTL when he compared himself to a drive thru!
Not the healthiest way to deal with these things in my opinion, but it's how Pietrek works :)
