Sometimes something happens that makes you have to tell a loved one something that you didn't want them to know. Sometimes it's a visitation of a relative you didn't want them to know about. Sometimes it's a revelation about some terrible thing done when you were younger and not so wise...
...And sometimes it's this.
Due to an unexpected weakening of the barriers between worlds, Anaktis has to tell her son Wil a hidden truth about herself and her side of the family.

Well, to copy paste from an old character description:
"Anaktis Yutani is a hyena fairy. In her early twenties, Anaktis set off as a photographer for several archaeological expeditions, but lack of decent pay made theft and resale of artifacts a tempting choice. Hir better senses fell to the wayside as shi'd steal pieces under cover of darkness. Somehow no one caught hir in the act. Then a few years ago, Anaktis took part in a full on investigation of a recently-uncovered temple to some ancient and long-forgotten diety. A temple not belonging to any known date or time.... dollar signs were in the young hyena fairy's eyes. One night, she slipped into the temple, counting steps shi memorized to navigate through the darkness, until she was certain no one would see hir small flashlight. Deep within the temple, shi turned on hir flashlight and pushed past a dorrway, breaking the seal on it. the door opened and in the dim light of the flashlight Anaktis could only see darkness- then several red eyes opened in the void. Something took hold of hir and- shi woke up. Completely naked. 2 weeks later. 1,500 miles away. Anaktis later discovered shi was pregnant. Although nervous, shi decided to let hir pregnancy continue. Shi felt nice, shi like how shi looked as hir belly grew. At 8 months, hir belly stopped growing, though the youngling within was apparently healthy. And so Anaktis was fully gravid- and has been for a number of years."

Anaktis has been impregnated by Kzurokh-Kuhl, a cthuloid elder thing. The resulting offspring within is a mixture of both parents. Though it reaches nominal size by 8 months, the gestation`s carrying time is 13 years. During pregnancy, eldritch magic that is to protect the Kzurokh-Kuhl youngling seeps into the hosts body, giving anaktis unusual resiliency and stamina."
This all takes place a number of years later. Upon the birth of her firstborn, whom the unnatural and frankly deadbeat father took, Ana settled down, found a way to hide her wings and did what she could to have a normal life. She later met, fell in love and broke up with another hyena, which is how she has a son, whom she thought she wouldn't need to tell about the less normal times of her life, but there's been some sort of event, and the wings shi has can no longer be hidden.
