This be my Changling character in the World of Darkness role-playing game, Mage: the Awakening.
Born Tom Robinson back in the late forties, he grew up on his wits in the streets of Chicago, a regular street urchin. No real family aside from his sister, a bright young lady that managed to find her way out of the slums and into a better life. And Tom? He found his way into the hands of a sweet-talking alley cat faerie in need of a strong back and sticky fingers, whom with little more than a flick of his whisker spirited the young adult over the Hedge and into the capricious reality beyond.
Under the impression of his feline overlord, Tom slowly gained the likeness thereof, and only by these heightened senses and agility could he escape his captor and traverse the Hedge back to the world he knew and loved. Having been gone so long as he thought he was, Tom wondered what sort of corrupt place Earth had become, or if it was a shining Utopia on a hill. To his great surprise, Chicago made it through the turn of the millennium, 40 years since his disappearance.
In the 4 years that followed he joined the Moon Court, and with their dark-dealing assistance, Tom stalked his Fetch - the Fae-made construct to replace him on Earth - and felt both dismayed and disgusted that the charlatan made something of his life: a hard working citizen, a loving father and husband, and a nice house...he was also in his sixties at this point. Tom struggled with the idea of injecting himself into such an honest life he never really considered before; he settled with visiting his young grandchildren as "The Cheshire Cat", for he always smiled his biggest smile whenever they met, and always faded away into the shadows whenever he left.
And so was Tom Cheshire introduced, a still inexperienced Changling getting by on his wits in the streets of Chicago, 20XX.
