Maybe I feel like I’m preaching to the proverbial choir with this one, or perhaps I’m just being the crabby, crusty old man yelling at clouds (pick your cliché). However, I don’t think I’m the only one, who really feels the need to lay a lot of the current blame for the toxic stew our current political and societal discourse has gradually become directly at the feet of the media, both the so-called “mainstream” (MSM), and the online social media.
Whether left or right-wing, I think few can disagree that it really has become an absolute shit-show these days, and in many ways, the media really has become an insidious social enemy and poison. Panem et circenses never had it so good.
Of course, I might just be a cynical prick, too. I’ll own that, at least. :P
With regards to the title, it comes from two different sources. The first is the old adage that ‘The media sows the seeds of knowledge’, and the second comes from a well-known Biblical quote that I’ve used more than once before in the past, namely Matthew 7:16 (KJV): “…by their fruits shall ye know them.”
The sloganeering seeds that the media have sown, are now bearing some very bitter, and poisonous fruit, indeed…
