So our good friend Rhodes has far too much sense to fall head over heels in love with a lady, does he? Well, I suppose we'll have to see about that, won't we? He might not be a sailor, but those mermaids do seem to have quite an effect on the mortal men who encounter them! Meanwhile, it's sweet of Lydia to take Harumi under her wing, as it were, and try to teach her how to get along in an unfamiliar place without calling too much attention to herself. With those lovely men in the ship on her tail, though, it'll be interesting to see how long she can keep up the facade before it all comes crashing down.

Rhodes probably thinks he would never be the type to fall in love without knowing it, but I think a lot of people do. Rhodes is probably pretty type A, task oriented and such since he manages the business. He's not a fan of unexpected variables, which is usually what the women they encounter tend to be. For good or ill, one thing he picked up from his father is a preference for order rather than chaos, and falling in love unexpectedly, well, that just doesn't happen to a proper business stallion.
Of course, that's what Ethan thought too.
It was fun writing those scenes from harumi's POV, the outsider, as it were. Though there had never been any plans to incorporate mermaids into the universe her character just seemed to fit so well and inspired me to fit her into Journeys, if only at the moment for the stand alone prequel mini project.
