I'm curious where this is going!
I think the yinglets ought to say 'ze', not 'zhe', for 'the'. The original explanation was that they substitute either 'd' or 'z' for 'th' sounds, and 'zh' crept in... but I'm inclined to say the classy yinglets would use 'z' for a stressed 'th' like in 'there' or 'this' and 'zh' for an unstressed 'th', such as 'with' or 'thin'.

Looking forward to show you all how I interpret the old days of yinglets.
While the "zhe" speech pattern of the yinglets are well known, in the end it is mostly a effect caused by their shell-tooth.
And individual yinglets figure out their own way how to own this speech-obstacle.
This differ from individuall to individual based on things such as - nature, personallity, region, etc. And of course, artist choice :D
One yinglet-artist could for an example, fully rely on a "da" sound. Which Val comicly refered at one point to as, the "da" vs "zhe" wars
In my example, I go with a simple corruption of "th" sounds " unless an example is showing up"

"He has wandered zhis land alone."
*shoots truth bullet---family>
No! That's wrong!
-BREAK!-
While technically he did traveled alone for most of his life, but he didn't reach this land by himself just recently. He came here with a human family.
I'm beginning to think that he didn't exactly tell her everything he went through and I hope she'll let him go back to the family or at least let him go back and forth to the city once she learns how he is learning at his new job or at the very least take advantage of what he's learning.

Oh, Mori´rai is indeed a good boi. He has no reason to tell half truths to his own kinsmen.
But... Maybe the matriarch is... "Editing his story a little?" --- "only telling what she deems important" --- ???
But why?.. :)
It´s nice to see people wanting to step in for Mori´rai :) Makes me happy.

Yeah, there isn't much reason why he would be oblivious in leaving out certain major details of his life, but I still think he's prone to making selective answers to selected questions in more of a "you didn't ask" in an innocent sort of way.
It's pretty obvious she's trying to do everything she can to keep him close to her without making him a prisoner or feel like one as much as possible.
There's no clue yet that she thinks she can use his in-training trade skills to her and the enclaves advantage yet.
