well have to start somewhere. Also if they can tolerate fire, use tools, and have any kind of "command" structure, they're sentient and should be "tolerated" as such.

Show a yinglet fire, and he will set himself ablaze.
Teach a yinglet to make fire... And you will rethink your choices about dooming anything flamable.

Hence my wording for "tolerate" rather than accept, treat, or condemn them as sentient. If they were truly aware of setting stuff on fire they would need to be punished, basically have to understand their being sentient only goes so far and they should be tolerated as to have clear laws in handling of their kind rather than squishing all of them under foot like rats. I love how you sort of add to the out of placers universe by casually including new fauna.
I'm sure Val appreciates the extra world building as well.

Staying as true as possible to Val´s world, is one of my guiding lines when making LTL.
So having weird excotic animals is a must!

My favorite is the yinglet in the back who seems surprised to have a nose. "Where did zis come from?"

My intention with him was to show that even in their early days, they did have have a minimal level of ingenuity.

He was putting branches into the ground, then found some vine to put between two of them. And theeeeen... He kinda forgot
what he wanted to make in the beginning... And got hungry!
