Inktober Day 1- "Ring":

"A silent and smiling form loomed large over the grassland. As I drew closer I realized that it wasn't one creature, but three of them stacked atop on another. The one on the bottom was taller than I was, and the one at the top the shortest. I stepped into the ring of animals, frowning as I tired to make sense of what I was seeing. They had faces like the Furred, like people, but bodies like animals. I ran my hand along the stone snout of one, my finger pads skipping over the rough texture of the stone. A wink in the moonlight caught my eye, and I stood back to see into the statue's eye. Inside was a metal ring set into the stone, with a spike jutting up from the center of the ring just the right size for a candle. The hole that served the statue's face as an eye was built like a lantern, carved in a shape that would focus the light forward of the statue's face, and a base to hold a candle. Stepping further back I turned in a circle at the center of the ring, and saw that every eye had such a space, each gaze a pair of lanterns, darkness waiting for a candle. I wondered what it would look like, to stand here at night, like I was now, only to have the space lit by the 15 statues around me. It was a curiosity I'd have to test another time, though, because I knew better than to try this by myself. So I stepped out of the ring, made my drawing, and moved on."
