Inktober Day 3 - "Bait":

"It's interesting to watch a Shaman-Ai 'hunt' for food. I'm not sure if they know something about Drifters that we don't? But I don't think so. Shaman-Ai act like Drifters are smart, that they have to sneak up on them to capture and eat them, when any Furred knows that you have to bob and weave to not touch Drifters if you happen to be in a field where they're gathering.
Still, Gin insisted on talking me through her hunting tactics, and finding a place for me to observe her, unseen by the Drifters so that I wouldn't spook her food.
First she finds a place she think they'll gather, usually in a clump of rattlegrass, during the day, hours before the first Drifter will appear. Then she plucks a single stalk of rattlegrass, leaves and all, and holds it above her. She tells me this camouflages her into the greenery. I don't agree, but I hold back my comments and my giggles as she goes on to tell me that if she waves the rattlegrass to move like a Drifter does, one will land on it, drawn in by the moment of one of their kind they're not familiar with. Then she will slowly chew the stock down while the Drifter sits and 'thinks', and she'll be able to easily eat it before it realizes that there's anything amiss.
I had serious doubts that this strange form of bait would work, but as I hide behind the rock I was instructed to crouch behind, I see the Drifters coming toward Gin, and I am forced to remember that the Shaman-Ai are probably just as intelligent as People are, just socialized differently from us."
