I know because of my learnings.
Sorry if this is giant >:( I got a new comp/monitor recently and the resolution is hugenormous so everything that was so big on my old one is now teeny tiny to me. WHATEVER.
I work at a Greyhound Rescue. Doodled this up very quickly tonight after work. I'll chuck it into my scraps after a few days.

I wasn't aware you worked at a GREYHOUND rescue! People do such horrible things to them ;w;
Then again I only learned because my 9th grade art teacher turned art class into "hey look at photos of mutilated alive/dead animals on the walls". She apparently is part of a local Greyhound rescue here, owns a multitude of greyhounds, which she brought to school one day. Same day she had us all watch a video on how greyhounds are abused and killed when not in use. ...She had a good point, but there is a time and place for that stuff. NEEDLESS TO SAY, SHE WAS CRAZY! :D
*AHEM* ANYWAY YES. Much respect over here to you for working in such a place. I totally understand. I'm just now starting college, hoping to get into the vet tech program in a couple years. Not many people can stomach the stuff that comes in. Cool points to you.
OH, and the art is fantastic. XD Hurp, I ramble. DEAD COCKROACH.

I like this, especialy the drawing of the running greyhound. In a couple of weeks I will be retuning home from a greyhound gathering in Solvang California.
Wish I could adopt a retired greyhound, but pets are not allowed in the apartments where I live, so dog-sitting during the Greyhound Gathering is as close as I get.

I work at Fast Friends in New Hampshire (http://www.helpinggreyhounds.org/) Don't judge by the website, it's so terrible and I've been trying to convince them to let me redo it. The facilities are reeeeally nice though.
I just visited the website. They seem to be anti-racing, which is a shame, as most people in the racing industry realy care about the dogs. Anyhow, getting the dogs adopted is what realy matters. How are you doing with all the snow?
Here is a greyhound message board you might be interested in.

I... would seriously contend with that statement. All of ours dogs come from racetracks and they're pretty fucked up when they get here. We just got in four new ones from a track down in Mass (they'd been making their way up from Florida) that are so skinny it sickens me.
When I lived in Oregon, I did volunter work for GPA Northwest. We would get dogs in from local breeders as well as from out-of-state tracks, and they all seemed happy and healthy. The only dogs I have come across that were in a bad condition healthwise were a group brought in from Guam after the track there closed down and the dogs were given to anyone who wanted one. Most of these people did not know how to care for a greyhound and some were abandoned.
Anyhow, take a look at the message board I mentioned earlier. People both for and against racing are allowed to have their say.

OMG - that looks almost exactly like http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3566003
The only thing I disagree with is the ''approx 3 seconds"
I think it's more like 1.5 sec.... =D

Having recently almost had my leash-holding arm popped out of its socket by a peeing-to-OMFGRUNTHERE'SLADYHOUNDS moment, I'm inclined to pare it down to a couple of nanoseconds.
And haha yes, I love that the general greyhound body shape comes in various sizes: small (it. greyhounds), medium (whippets), and large (greyhounds) plus a few other variations. Too cute XD

You forgot to mention their hips are 3" wide and yet they can slip between fenceposts somehow that are only 1/4" apart.
Greyhounds are part Houdini ... or was it Houdini who was part Greyhound?
Used to have a neighbor who adopted a Greyhound. I am not kidding you, the gap in the fence the Greyhound kept slipping through was 1/4" wide. I actually met that neighbor because, after the first time I saw a Greyhound in our yard, I got him to come up to me, and after the first scritchie, whenever he'd escape, he'd come straight to my house, heh. A lady went looking for him, saw him with me, and explained his Houdini-ism. It didn't take many more escapades for me to memorize the way to her house, and I kept returning him to her, lol. She actually wound up having me dogsit for her ... oddly enough when I dogsat, he decided he didn't need to escape to get scritches from me, lol.
Sweet dog, but ... very high energy. I'm much more of a German Shepherd person, but as dog breeds go, Greyhounds aren't too bad. I definitely rank them above huskies who are low on my list, heh.

Oh my god, YOUU.
A friend of mine was sharing some of your WoW pics and I decided to go through your gallery.
My mind was -blown- when I found out that you were the one that did this pic-- I was doing a search on Greyhounds on dA and fell in love with this very pic. I totally wasn't expecting to see it here, or to find the artist that did it. You're so watched, forever. <3

Hahah yeah, apparently this picture has made the rounds. I guess someone janked it and passed it around Facebook, because earlier this year one of my coworkers was like, "Oh I have to show you this funny greyhound picture I found on Facebook" and started describing it. I was like D: Uh. Yeah. I drew that. Took me a while to convince her, lol, the situation was just so odd.
Haha, the 'net really does make one realize how small the world really is huh? It does sound one one helluva coincidence tho'-- and gosh I admire that you work/worked with 'Greys so avidly. I recently adopted a girl from a rescue here in Texas, which is why I was so enthralled with the breed and came across your piece. Fun stuff indeed!
OH! MY! GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE THIS!!!!!! *silly googly eyes*
Calming down now... This is so completely accurate and funny as hell. If my puppy at home would not absolutely beat the shit out of another dog, I would bring home a retired racing greyhound in a heartbeat. I love greyhounds!

Man, this makes me miss our greyhound so bad.
There's a Greyhound rescue near my dad and I. When I was in middle school I REALLY wanted a dog, haha, so we adopted a greyhound and he was my best buddy. Except he had some kind of really bad separation anxiety, and with my going to school and dad working, well..
He chewed EVERYTHING. The door, the windowsills, counters, anything..wood. Not only that, but he had a snapping problem whenever someone would move to get up if you were sitting down with him. I dunno. W e happened to get one who was a little messed up in the head, so we couldn't keep him.. :(
Aside from that, he was absolutely wonderful and just so devoted and doting. He'd follow me to the BATHROOM, haha.
If you're worried, our boy was given back to the rescue, which was no kill, and ended up being adopted by one of the owners for his special needs. :]

Years ago my mother [with five kids including myself, both me and my little brother were pretty young at the time] was trying to adopt a greyhound from rescue agencies, but they all turned her down because 'all of those kids would be too stressful for it'. Um... more stressful than on a racetrack with thousands of people shouting and cheering at them?
Anyway, eventually we were able to adopt an italian greyhound from a breeder who had to rescue him from the family she sold him too. They just tied him up in the backyard and gave him no attention save for yelling at him to stop barking now and then. He was a neurotic mess when we got him, but after a year of being smothered in love from a family of seven and our very affectionate other pets, he was as happy and playful as a puppy. When his breeder saw him again she burst into tears at how much he had recovered! Pshh, 'too stressful' my foot. :P This picture is very accurate, btw! XD Woe-face and everything!
