A bit out of focus but you can see the ladder detail a bit better. Notice the triangles on the bottom of the hull? Those are the triangles used to make the 3D model and we are at the detail limit for this model. Effectively the printer can print finer detail than what most files are created in.

It's got kind of an "Andromeda Strain" thing going for it focus wise. Back in the late 1990s, just when the 3-D printing thing was catching on, some shops set up making custom aftermarket parts for model builders so they could add a touch more realism to their creations and Dioramas.

Polygon failure. The image was created for a printer less capable of the fine detail to display the triangles. I imagine the files with that sort of details an digital smoothing will become available shortly.
This reminds me a little of the kits available in the 1960s and 1970s that let kids make their own toys. The Mattel 'Thing Maker' series -- my brother has the 'Creepy Crawlers' set; I had a 'Creeple Peeple' add-on set. The weirdest was my 'Strange Change' machine.
I also had a set that would let me melt plastic pellets and make my own injection-molded toys. Probably had ten ways to hurt yourself...
