This is right about the size where you don't really want them running free to play "Bite the Ankle".
I've seen a curious Norwegian Elkhound walk towards a cluster of humans and notice/smell the lion cub (about this size) in the center of the cluster, from 20 feet away. The impression I had was a leap 2 feet straight up in the air, with a mid-air turn, and a run as fast as possible in the other direction. His instincts knew what he was smelling.
