For the animated short I am working on that I hope to turn into a miniseries, well, this is the villain of the segment; the deadly supersoldier Zanek. Or at least, this is the pencil sketch version before I ink and colour him. But for now, feel free to tell me what you think.

Zanek was born in the city of Nuwekrag and at a young age displayed two noticeable anomalies; his power to conjure claw-like blades of pure psychic force from his extremities, namely his fingertips, and his seemingly built-in love for murder. When the corporation that ran the isolated island city discovered his talent, they were quick to harness his madness and begin the augmentation and conditioning process immediately; in fact, they were impressed more by his resilience as he survived procedures that most other would-be supersoldiers had died undertaking in repeat experiments. His slender arms have been severed and re-attached no less than eighteen times to perfect the joints and 'energy sheathe' systems (cybernetic nodes that replace his fingertips and serve to focus his abilities), his upper body was left bent and hunched over, and his breathing is a hissing wheezy rasp of a man in constant agony. Of course, with how blatantly sadomasochistic Zanek is, it may well be possible that he either has actually come to love the pain or simply that he cannot stop smiling even if he wanted to; nobody is sure, and given that Zanek is a willing mute with only the vaguest semblance of loyalty, nobody has any desire to get near enough to him to ask. The hat that he wears is actually a 'trophy', stolen from the first Freedom Fighter that he ever killed; he has refused to take it off since then.

Zanek nowadays is considered the 'ninja of Nuwekrag' given his proclivity for lightning-fast stealth attacks; however, in spite of his skill, his utter madness makes him a dangerous asset and he is only ever brought out if either a situation seems like it needs radical action or if the corporation truly wishes to demoralize their enemy. No Underling wishes to be in Zanek's squad if they can help it given that, even by supersoldier standards, working under him is usually a death sentence; when Zanek comes into action, every Underling in battle is usually smart enough to retreat if only just to get the out of his way. When he is not sent out into battle, Zanek greatly enjoys carving sculptures or pictures with his claws and training his deadly martial arts skills.



Claw Projection. Zanek's most notable ability is his ability to conjure deadly claws of white psychic energy from his fingertips. Before the augmentation, these claws could only extend to about 15 cm, but now their maximum range is closer to 2 m when he pushes himself to the limit. He is not limited to using his fingertips if need be and can actually project the blade from any 'extremity', including from his toes and even from his artificial spine should his top and bottom half be severed. These claws can easily shred through most materials, even leaving deep cuts in solid stone or hardened metals.

Enhanced Agility. Zanek's limber and strong body allow him to move and react at a level of speed and sheer dexterity that normal people simply cannot. This is also in part due to his artificial spine giving his torso section a level of flexibility that would be impossible for people with conventional physiologies to perform.

Enhanced Leap. Zanek's incredibly powerful limbs allow him to leap to incredible heights and distances, approximately 50 m, and land unharmed with practically no effort.

Enhanced Smell. His second-most notable ability is his uncanny sense of smell, able to pick out individual scents with incredible accuracy to hunt down even the most tricky and stealthy prey. This is something of a two-edged sword, however; during the augmentation process, this particular sense got so heightened that using it for overlong periods would actually become highly distracting for Zanek to the point that he would not be able to focus on actual combat. As such, he was fitted with a special 'nasal inhibitor' with a removable slot in it that closes off his nasal passages and effectively deactivates this ability when in use.

Walltreading. When stealth attacks from a more advantageous position is required, Zanek is more than capable of climbing walls and ceilings by using his claws.
