Gun Porn, The Three Two's
Its a sunny day, and actually warm out. And I stupidly waste an hour to actually remove the decaying thick ice that caused me to slip and fall, damaging my rotary cuff on Tuesday. I sorta reminded myself of a scene from Schindler's list where there was a one armed Jew trying to shovel snow , only to be shot in the head by the SS. I carefully managed to remove a large portion of the problematic ice in that time. Thankfully a younger and physically intact neighbor upstairs decided to come out and actually finish the job. Least the thick ice is now gone and the risk of slipping as well.
But that scene got me thinking, how Col. Goeth (Ralph Finness' character) used a pistol to pistol whip a Rabbi after the gun failed to shoot him. God was clearly watching out for the Rabbi. Then it dawned on me, I HAVE that same pistol he used.
Which leads to the image. My 'Mouse guns' (IE: Mouse gun, calibers .22, .25ACP and 7.65 (.32ACP) as they are called.)
These are what I could consider the smallest caliber pieces I would carry, certainly NOT in wintertime conditions, more a summertime carry. People, mainly hardcore shooters would doff the caliber, .32ACP as a piss poor for a defensive load. And stopping power it is poor on. But even the lowly .32 is better than nothing. (Though I'd NEVER own a .25ACP, its too punkass, even compared to the .22 LR for stopping power.)
These are my .32s I own (I have a fourth one, a CZ-61 Skorpion, but its buried away currently), I had 3 others, but sold two off and had the other stolen (An Ortgies .32, an utter POS pistol, floating firing pin that would fly off somewhere when field stripped for cleaning. A Mab-D Former French made, marked with German capture markings, was offered A LOT of money for it, paid $90 for it, sold it for $400 and a FeG Hungarian .32 (Stolen, later replaced with the same but in 9mm Makarov).

Beretta Model 81, Made in Italy, former Italian Police issued, 12 plus one in the pipe, I will often carry this in the summer. I named it Mario. (Cause I have Luigi, a Beretta Mini Cougar in 9mm) These are currently showing up at affordable (around $250) prices at various gun shows and gun shops. Seems the Italian's dumped them for the newer Beretta 9MMs as a police piece. Note : I SERIOUSLY need a couple extra magazines for this pistol. Only having one sucks.
CZ-50 , 8 plus one in the pipe, a great lil shooter (BTW, the CZ-70 is the exact same pistol, just slightly different grips) I dearly love this pistol. A book I have on the Eastern block handguns state that the Cz-50s made from 1951-1954 are the better made and rarer models and used by security police. These were later made for civilian use. This one was made in 1951.
Mauser HSc, 8 plus one in the pipe. This one was WW2 German Gestapo/ Police marked, This is a fantastic shooter, and often used as a pocket pistol (The one Goeth used). I carried this as a CCW piece a few times, but due to its rarity and markings, remains a collector piece.
Say what you want about the .32 caliber, but its a seriously accurate caliber out to 30 yards and within 15 feet, impressive as all hell. And again, better to have even this caliber than none at all. (Though NEVER count on a .25 ACP as a defensive piece, its too low a velocity, too light weight and oddly far more expensive to buy 50 rounds compared to buying a box of than say .45ACP or .40S&W. Even the .22LR with CCI Stingers would be a far more lethal round than the .25 ACP.)

very nice collection you got there. a local shop here has a Mauser with German WWII markings. have thought about pickling it up as a pure collectors piece.
A stick is better then 25acp. lol and yeah it can be more expensive then other more popular calibers.
Your Beretta is pretty cool too. im a fan of police/agency pistols and revolvers.

No, it was developed as a pocket pistol that the 'gentleman' would carry. Even in the TV show M*A*S*H*, Major Burns pulls a .25 on a North Korean who immediately laughs at him "Are you kidding me? Put that toy away!"
I also laughed at a early James Bond when Bond was handed a Walther .25 auto and Q said "And its rounds hit with the force of a truck". A Hot wheels truck? matchbox truck? When thrown in anger?

I thought "Q" was handling the .25 auto Beretta, quoting it as being inadequate caliber. Bond tried to defend it saying it has never let him down with "Q" responding he is a "00" meaning he has a license to kill not being or getting killed. He was then issued the .32 Walther PPK saying the CIA states it hits like a brick through plate glass....something along those lines...
Then there's the air pistol from "From Russia with Love"...

I have a CZ-50 that came with CZ-70 grips. Bought extra original mags before supplies dried up. Qualified for a CPL with it--stoked with S & B ammo of course.
Loading .25 ACP for a friend, but bullets are scarce or quite pricey. Had to craft a powder measure from a .22 Short casing.

The Czech tanker pistol, I own one. The only handgun out there you can flat trajectory out at 100 meters. That gun was also the ONLY 7.62X25 handgun you can safely shoot the Polish 7.62X25 ammo repeatedly. That Polish ammo was ment for the PPsh-41 and 43 Sub-guns. 2200 FPS vs 1900 FPS for regular handgun loads.
My vz52 actually shoots better with the 9mm NATO conversion barrel.
Actually own a Polish TT33. Don't care at all for the position of the aftermarket safety. The recoil can cause the lever to be pushed too far forward and the spring-loaded ball bearing jumps out of the crudely milled track arc.

Had a couple of those some time back. Were fun. Dang flat shooting - actually hit a 200 yard High Power match target with one during a practice shoot. Club President was ragging on me for having the CZ52 - I told him I'd fire 3 rounds at his fresh target and we'd see if I hit it. Aimed at the top of the black 8 ring, had the rounds stay in the black at that distance. Guy shut up at that point about the CZ
I own a .25!!!

It is absolutely NOT something you want to be in front of when it goes pop!
Ballistically the .25 beats out the .22lr when fired from a micro pistol. Most .22lr are rated out of a rifle length barrel.

Actually the .22 Stinger or Yellowjacket loads are nastier than any .25ACP loads, even in a pistol. I've watched .25 auto rounds only DENT a coffee can at 20 feet. I once owned a Raven 25 for only one reason. I once owned a 1989 Dodge Dakota and discovered that the steering wheel horn pad could be pulled up and the locking nut was just the right size I could fit a Raven 25, through the trigger guard and replace the pad and nobody was any wiser it was there.
Sorta like having an emergency pistol and who would look INSIDE a steering wheel for a handgun? When I sold the truck, I forgot to retrieve the pistol. Safe bet it was scrapped along with the truck years later. I never shot that Raven. I would own another Raven 25 a few years later for roughly a half hour. I was selling at a gun show when some farmer sold me a S&W .357, in shooter grade (roughly 60-70 % finish left, with some surface pitting), a 12 gauge pump shotgun for $200. The Farmer just tossed in the .25, still in the box, in the deal and walked out. I slapped $60 on the Raven (They were selling for $69 new) and sold it immediately, the 12 gauge sold for $160 within the hour and a friend bought the .357 for $125.
My upstairs neighbor keeps a Raven .25 in his tackle box, he uses it to shoot Muskies in the head upon landing them.
IF...IF given another .25 auto, I would consider it a "It goes bang, aim for the face at point blank range" car gun and not worry about it. Stash it with the sun glasses. But I'd put far more faith in a .22LR than a .25ACP any day!

Aw, c@rp, I have one of each of these.
I'll keep an eye out for magazines for your Model 81 at the next couple of gun shows. I have only two now, because I never shoot the thing.
I also have a CZ 52 (7.62×25mm Tokarev). Weird operating system (based on a machine gun) and not a nice trigger pull. Accurate as all get-out, though. Ammo was cheap for a while and I have lots of surplus rounds in boxes (and coffee cans). Just got to wash out the barrel with hot, soapy water because some of the surplus rounds were corrosive.

I love my little vzor 70. Bought two actually, having made the mistake of selling the first one. It's my daily carry in and around town. The only reason I go to 40 is if I think there is a greater chance of something actually happening or I'm out in the woods.
I can put rounds on target at 50 meters reliably with it. Might not be what I recommend for conceal carry, but it's got a place in my heart. Too bad .32 is becoming a unicorn out where I live.

My CZ-50 is the same way, it handles like a pro, easy to maintain, carry and its machined steel, zero polymers. I've carried it when I want SOMETHING to deter with. Even the lowly .32ACP (loaded with Hornaday Critical defense loads or Golden Bear Sabers) will cause damage.
I don't see .32s being sold at various gun shops locally that often, least not new ones, used occasionally, but rarely. Oddly ammo is getting hard to find as well (along with .357Sig) but stupidly see vast amounts of .25ACP available.
Carrying a .32 while woods trekking is like using a .22 while deer hunting.

hehe well not as bad as the Astra but those 5 .32 rounds have the same case and bullet diameters. Used to load for 7.62x 25, .32/20 and that 7.62 Nagant Revolver round. That 7 shot Ruger single action is a lot of fun - Lipsey's exclusive - managed to get one thru work at a good price. Factory .327 rounds are dang noisy in the indoor range - stuff is loader to higher pressure than the old 30 carbine.
Nice! For .32 autos i also have the Beretta 81 and cz50, and then i have two early colt 1903s, an FN1900, FN1910, FN1922, a Dreyse 1907, and a savage 1907. i also have a selection of .32 revolvers. you could say im a fan. if you want a .32 with stopping power try the .327 federal magnum in the ruger sp101. it's unbelievably loud, but just as accurate as youd expect from a .32, and of course it will also fire .32 h&r mag, .32 sw long, and 32 sw short.
