RIP Kirk Douglas
News just broke on the passing of Hollywood legend, Kirk Douglas, of old age, he was 103!
This icon in the film industry, with his good looks, dimple in his chin, he was the leading man in numerous films. Films like Spartacus, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Lonely and the Brave, The Vikings, Paths of Glory, Man from Snowy river, The War Wagon, In Harms way, Young Man with a Horn, Last Train from Gun Hill, Ulysses, Saturn, Along the great Divide, Is Paris Burning?, Cast a Giant Shadow, Tough Guys, The Final Countdown, Lust for Life ...I could go on (and own most of these films).
Kirk was a philanthropist , a navy vet from WW2, and stood up against the Hollywood Blacklist by supporting Dalton Trumbo, who wrote Spartacus and insured him a screen credit.
He was almost killed in a helicopter crash in 1991, suffered a stroke in 1996. He literally was the last of the Hollywood Golden era actors.

Forgot about him in that Disney movie "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea."
Douglas sang in that movie too, really well!

You left out one movie he did though, that was a real bomb.
He played the title character in "The Villain" alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ann Margaret.
It's one of those "so bad it's a good laugh" movies.
And the Sci-Fi bomb "Saturn 3."

Yeah, especially since the town and train scenes in The Villain was filmed at Old Tuscon Studios.
How do I know this? The Reno appears in it: https://youtu.be/HicFYknnQqk?t=1296

Oh.
I just realized that the engine appeared in two films starring actors with similar-sounding first names.

My favorite movie of his was The Way West. He played a lovable bastard in that one. https://youtu.be/3vlKvqRINMc
Thanks for mentioning "The Final Countdown". Seems a lot of the articles I've seen have left this one out, and it's one of my favorite movies. Sci-fi military adventure movie, Japanese Zeros vs. F-14s, actually filmed on an aircraft carrier, what's not to like? And Kirk Douglas was great in it.
