I was lucky to have studied under a Nahual-Huichol Medicine Woman of Aztec decent, when I lived out West. Intent on taking me under her wing, we did some traveling and story telling and I was taught by her one a matter of many subjects in Aztec day-to-day life. The story is long an extensive, but she took it upon herself to find my Nahual and work out my birth date by Aztec Calendar to consolidate it. After proceeding were done, I had to bear the responsibility of some of the cultural knowledge I was taught- from stories to learning to be a day-counter (I have to brush up on those later skills).

In Aztec myth, the Black Jaguar is as a result of a [Yellow] Jaguar undergoing a massacre/battle. As a result, his skin is drenched in blood, and turns black. Both Jaguar and his brother Ocelot look down upon man with burning eyes (from the story of Ocelotl). Vengeance, and destruction usually ensue for the injustice both underwent at the hands of man. However, said same creature is also subject to being a playful character in some stories, coming out of the woods to play with village children before resuming his non-confrontational composure.
