The latest in my series of "Compositions of a Stupid Autistic Mind," which are either repetitive on purpose or are just stupid little melodies I improvise. Why? It represents the annoying things I used to do as a child, which proved to my parents I really am autistic. This whole series of compositions are based on dreams I have from time to time, which are flashbacks of my childhood. These repetitive melodies, therefore, are generally either things I improvised and they stuck with me, or were based on things I discovered I remembered wrong. Alternately, they're sometimes relevant to a current event in my life, or just represent what mood I am in right now. This series also is a challenge for me to use specific MuseScore templates at least once (although I also modify settings on the templates to make it easier on myself).
This one is entitled "I Can't Stand It!", and is meant to sound chaotic since it represents this whole past week at my job (I work at McDonalds). It's been rough, working with just a skeleton crew to keep up with what seems like the whole town coming to the restaurant, and everybody wants their order at the same time. The impression that it left on the staff, crew and managers, was that everybody was getting their tax refund checks, and then wasting the money on us instead of saving it. (The store I work at also seems to be attracting more and more rude people, be it old people, people who fit the definition of the term "white trash," or a combination of both. But I cannot be judgemental. I must instead be patient and remind myself that if they didn't show, we wouldn't have a show, so to speak.) On top of it all, on Tuesday a nearby neighborhood (where one of the managers happens to live) was the scene of an armed robbery, and it was a TV the criminals were stealing, of all things. (All five people involved are now in jail, awaiting trial.) Some weeks are just bad, especially during tax season. But we survived. We did it before, and we can do it again.
This week has taught me to count my blessings, including the fact I have a job. Fast food can be a double-edged sword, though. On the one hand, if people didn't show, you wouldn't have a show. On the other hand, how do you keep up with the pace when the supply can't meet the demand?
For my template challenge (of which I have just a few left), I chose and modified "marching band," and so the instrumentation is as follows:
Piccolo
Flute
4 clarinets (divided into 2)
Bass clarinet
4 alto saxophone (divided into 2)
Tenor saxophone
Baritone saxophone
4 trumpets (divided into 2)
Mellophone
Baritone
Sousaphone
Glockenspiel
Xylophone
Crotales
Vibraphone
2 marimbas (one in treble clef, one in bass clef)
Timpani
Battery percussion (snare drum, tenor drums, bass drums, cymbals)
I also modulate (change keys) throughout the piece.
