NOTE: This is NOT a crossover with Kingdom Hearts! The guy's an OC! He's dressed like that only because I find that coat super rad!
Cyril found himself in a black, empty void.
Well, almost empty, there was a ground on which he was standing.
And a strange figure facing him.
The figure was covered by a black coat and hood that completely hid all features. He couldn't even tell if this was a man or a woman.
"Who are you?"
The figure didn't answer. It just stared at the aardvark.
For even though the eyes weren't visible under this hood, Cyril knew this figure was staring at him.
"Who are you?!" he repeated.
This time, the figure answered.
I am your judge. And this is your trial.
Cyril shivered. That voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once, and while powerful, was devoid of emotion.
He was starting to be afraid.
"My... trial?"
The judge didn't answer. Instead, he made a wide gesture.
And the void around them became filled with images and visions.
Cyril stared in shock. These images and visions were all of his past, of all his past.
He was literally seeing his life flash by before him.
And the judge was looking intently at them.
After a moment, the judge turned towards him anew.
You have been judged.
Slowly, the visions changed, altered, until they showed nothing but the worst of him, of his past actions. His abandonment and betrayal of Karl, his wicked actions to fill his pockets, his antagonism towards the Raccoons...
Back then, he had been proud of it, but with hindsight, he now really was repentant of it (you had to look hard, but you could see it).
You didn't care for the consequences of your actions. You didn't care if others suffered by your fault, as long as you gained something. Selfish. Conniving. Cruel. Spiteful.
The voice was still emotionless, but it made the words hurt even more, accentuating his guilt.
The images changed again, this time all focused on the Pigs, on the bad treatment he gave them.
Three souls in search of a life, of a goal. And you brought them mainly servitude and unfairness.
"Unfairness?!" exclaimed Cyril, anger taking over fear. "If you saw my memories, you saw the kind of things they did!"
And who taught them these?
The anger died immediately, as Cyril, for the first time, thought that he had his share of responsability on this point.
The judge was right: they learned through his example.
Dang... We'll need to have a heart-to-heart talk, he thought shamefully, lowering his head. If I get out of this alive... he added, for mortal fear was now filling him.
But even then...
Cyril lifted his head back up at these words, and saw that the visions were changing again, now focusing on Cedric, on his wife (he teared up at this memento of her), on the Sneer family, who had adopted him, on all this familial love.
Some others also showed his past promises, how he always upheld them, something he always had been proud of.
...There was a spark of decency and good in you.
Again, the images changed, now showing more recent actions, selfless actions. His heart-to-heart talks with Bentley and Lisa, his stay at the hospital where he met Danny, his reunion with Woody...
A spark that you kindled, fed, revived. Personal gain is still something important to you, but no longer the only one. And no longer at any cost. Others do matter to you now.
Once again, all images and visions of all his past filled the void. But while they had been dispersed randomly the first time, now the good actions were more present than the bad ones.
At this sight, and the previous words, Cyril felt his fear weaken.
You have found back the better part of yourself. And even though you sometimes fall back on the wrong path, you don't stray long. You truly want to stay with that part. A man like that deserves the gift I guard. A man like that is worthy.
In a flash of light, the coin that started it all appeared in the judge's hand, who handed it to him.
Come. Receive the Blessing.
Hesitantly, Cyril approached, as the judge stood still.
He took the coin.
And everything went dark.
