Okay, so the D&D campaign I'm creating, entitled 'blood throne', basically revolves around the reconstruction of this shattered gem, the 'blood ruby'. And I can hear you all shouting 'Inuyasha Ripoff!' already, so let me stop you right there.
1 - this thing was shattered into exactly 20 pieces which are in set locations, not 5 billion that the party will never find so they can keep the story going forever.
2 - this gem is wholly evil, and cannot be redeemed in any way. not that wishy-washy 'lets purify the sacred jewel shards' crap.
3 - the only reason the party will be questing to find and reunite all the shards, is that the gem can only be fully neutralized once it's made whole.
4 - this baby is basically the source of all maelific power in the multiverse, just as its counterpart - the Hope Sapphire - is the source of all righteous might. these gems are the keys to nothing less than the dominion of the outer planes - lets see your pansy-ass 'sacred jewel' beat that.
5 - An evil presence near a sacred jewel shard can corrupt it... :3 but in Soviet russia, Blood Ruby corrupt YOU!
All right, now that I've sufficiently covered my ass... creation story :3
In the beginning, after the creation of the universe by the prime mover Atropus, there were two. Xan and Hura were the only sentient things created by the sacrifice of Atropus, and they embodied the essences of Hatred and Love respectively. Each ruled the Void from opposite ends, on thrones of unimaginable power, fueled by the gems embedded in their backings. Xan despised Hura, and repeatedly subjugated her to all manner of torments - including rape - which she bore silently and without complaint because of her great love for him. From that rape, she became pregnant, and from her were the greatest of today's gods birthed. She was unable to survive such an ordeal, however, and the combination of childbirth and Xan's tortures finally ended her.
The young godlings ran from Xan for eons, but when they had finally grown into full deities they rose up and slew their father for his atrocities. With the two original gods dead, however, the two jewels in the thrones shattered, and the shards flew into the far corners of the multiverse.
Hura's throne, which held the hope sapphire, was an ivory-white flowing construction, seated in the second layer of what is now elysium.
Xan's throne was a twisted obsidian hunk settled in Hades - a throne now called the 'Seige Malicious', ruled by a cruel and diseased creature called the Oinoloth.
The thrones today have but a fraction of their old powers, but were the completed gems to be returned to them...

For a minute there this had me screaming "Woot, Evil Campaign!" Quest for evil power. but this seems interesting too! Not that it wouldn't be or anything. XD
with hardness of 50 and 400 hp it would take a lot of hacking at to destroy that thing. I'm guessing each shard per level deal? Forgive me if this information is supplied some where I do a good job of misplacing knowledge or skipping over words while reading so late at night. I don't know if you allow template PCs but I would totally go half black dragon template. Acid ignores hardness! >;)

I yeah breathe weapon is a spell-like ability, duh! >.< Yeah I have problems with idiotic players for evil campaigns too. I can keep em together but that doesn't stop them from doing stupid things. Usually stating that if one of the assumed party members dies another random one of you will die unless by cause of the effect its self. That usually keeps em together, a friend of mine came up with that one. X3
I could run on Mythweavers, but that's play-by-post...
...I could run on OpenRPG, but no one fucking has it, and it's still a bit buggy
and it was designed for table-top play in the first place (ie, I use props, music, have rules about needing to act out somatic spell components, etc...)
