Confederate War Graves, Madison Wisconsin 2020
I snapped this photo of the US Civil War Confederate war dead at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison Wisconsin.
This is the most northern cemetery for the Confederacy, consisting of 140 men who died as POWs at Camp Randell .
This is also a sad image where WOKE/SJW political Correctness has reared its ugly head. In this photo you see two foundations, one with a rose on it, and one just in front of the woman you see standing.
Both of those once held memorials to the Southern dead, one by the Veterans of the Union army, the other by the families of the dead with their names. The Madison City Council in 2018 in the wave of SJWs flipping out over anything and everything Confederate had the markers removed. https://www.wpr.org/confederate-mon.....metery-removed
To me this is just as bad as desecrating a grave with a Swastika. Only worse. You can at least clean off the Swastika. The removal or destruction is far far worse.
There are some in the city council that are also calling for the removal of the confederate dead as well, all in the name of WOKEness. This just sickens me to no end. They are the graves of fallen soldiers, not trash. This asinine wave of removing/destroying memorials, grave markers statues is akin to the ISIS motherfuckers destroying World Heritage sites and artwork. Instead of in the name of a twisted view of Islam, a twisted view of Political Correctness. These aren't the graves of mass murderers, some horrific human garbage like Hitler or Stalin or Mao. But regular men that for for THEIR Country and paid the ultimate price.
And before some of you whiners have a shitfit at this photo, My Great Great Grandfathers fought in the Civil War...On the Union side.

Not always true. My third Great Grandfathers's at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartville, Missouri (Was Bushwhacked in 1864, details differ as to why, but he was apparently leading a horse and wagon team loaded with grain according to one account) is a sky facing slab style. Though I don't believe that's his actual place of burial and may be a empty memorial.
Just goes to show that these so-called "woke" people show no mercy to anyone they deem an enemy, which is funny for people claiming to be so loving and tolerant. They don't see Confederate soldiers as ordinary men who fought for many different reasons, but rather as inhuman monsters unanimously fighting for a racist cause. They say the same about Germans and WWII too, cause "All Germans were Nazis".
Erasing history is never something good.
No matter how hurtful history is... you need to know that mistakes were made and that the people making those mistakes were not cardboard cutouts.
It means we have learned nothing.
They might have believed in something wrong, they might have been swindled by propaganda, they might have... everything.
Those people were people. They already lost. Erasing what they were just to "enforce purity" is just history repeating... and not in a good way.
I do not know if the guy that decided to remove them is "woke" or "ashamed by what people would think". But that person removed something from which people could learn.
You do not destroy history to conform to the present. You stare hard at history and burn in your mind what happened. You learn how far we got and how much is still the same.
Moreover. You understand that people are not cardboard cutouts that you can flatten into whatever is your point of view.
Once you erase history... history is no more. And it gets flatter and flatter each time, the more you enforce a single view of it.

Who controls the present controls the past.--George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four
I don't need to remind you which gang is most responsible for revisionist history and bad historians like the now-disgraced Michael A. Bellesiles.

They were horrific human garbage, though. Or do you not remember the explicit goal of the CSA?
"My Great Great Grandfathers fought in the Civil War...On the Union side."
and my ancestors fought for the confederacy and 100% deserved the end of a noose after the fact
