I wonder about this one. The composition is sophisticated enough artistically, but the execution is crude. I don't know if JE had developing health issues. I only know he died 3 years after this stone was carved, at 53.

You could be right; just the previous year he carved Susanna Oliver (1768), which may be the best he did in this style. Either he was ailing, or it was a matter of "You get what you pay for."
