Nah, I Don't See Any Six Foot Dogs...

Public Fursuiting draws one of two reactions:
1) The I've-gotta'-hug-you-and-get-a-picture-why-are-you-a-giant-dog?
or
2) I don't see you. I refuse to notice a huge ambling dog.
This couple diligently followed me to the end of the pier. And back. And never once said a word.
So I asked them if they had seen animal control around. You know, just to break the ice.
The man said "No thanks" and the women continued to pretend to adjust her coat.
I was sad. Are some people so jaded that they can't engage in a little harmless fanatsy?
The lesson I took away from this experience:
Keep an open mind. Enjoy the silly side of life. Use your imagination.
Be creative. Be spontaneous and engaged.
You might just make someone very happy...

And I think you're awesome, too...
Yay for fun!!
Diss. Nah, I'm kidding. I just have to spread the joy of sarcastic wittiness to the world. ^o^
Sometimes it's a good survival mechanism.
But they could have at least given me a smile!
And thank you for the "totally adorable" comment.
That makes up for everything...
Brilliant...
Fursuiting for world peace... I like it.
Closed mindedness causes wars.
Being open to new things solves conflicts.
1. Cause of our relationship
And 2. Cause of how we dress
But ya just gotta roll with it, if they don't like it, its just sad : /
is so satisfying.
And learning to roll with people's reactions
is a great skill to master.
You seem like you are on a good path!
I found it a little comical.
I mean, really, how do you ignore
some foolish dog trying his best
not to stumble off the pier?
Seeing a six foot dog would cheer me up even on my worst days.
Also, iirc dogs aren't allowed on the pier.
But thanks for being cheered!
And, of course, you bring up another great point:
It's what's on the inside of a person that counts.
And your insides are 100% awesome.
*hugs* lol you're awesome too ^-^
for public office.
We'd at least get the furry vote...
Just a little acknowledgment goes a long way.
And that goes for everyone, fursuiter or not.
*fistbump*
But, well, I wouldn't always chalk it up to their personalities. One thing I learned from psychology class is that reactions aren't always behavioral, it may be situational. I mean... maybe something bad happened to them earlier that day, or... something... but still, I can't imagine how it feels to go fursuiting and not get a positive reaction from someone. Though I do my best to empathize. -hugs-
They may have coming from a funeral for all I know.
Respect works both ways.
I didn't hound em' (get it?) after they rejected me.
And your empathy is much appreciated. It is the BEST
human trait. We should use it lots more.
And I agree! We need more empathy in the world... but yeah. It's why I enjoy using it when I can. ^.=.^
But I have it on good authority that you are...
Hope to meet up with you next time...
We might have chatted. Well, you might have chatted, I probably
just mumbled in an uninteligable manner...
When do you get your suit and
when can we go out and cause a ruckus?
With love of course <3
I can't stand to think of that.
Who would do such a thing?
I'm a gentle dog, but I can scrap if necessary.
No one better lift a finger to hurt you if I'm around. *grrrr*
You are an open minded person (proven by the fact that you are on FA!)
and you always give me a good laugh.
It's all good.
I can't imagine passing up the opportunity
to interact with a talking animal.
And you are sooooo cute! *hugs*
Yup, I'm so lucky to live here...
Yeah, I felt bad for them.
Life is not fun without the intersection
of reality and imagination...
Like to your house for a beer.
Non believers
And what fun is that?
Shun the non believers!
Shuuuuun!
Ssssssshhhhuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnn!!!!!
I tried to liven things up!
Thank you for the nice comment.
Wow, you got a lot of comments so far.
I agree, you tend to run into folks on opposite sides of the spectrum, those who like and those who do not like. I tend to spend more time with those who like than those who don't like. I also agree that I feel sorry for those who don't like and stuck in their ways.
We do what we can.
Cheers,
---> Wally
And you're the best at doing it!
Wish you could have been there for this romp.
They couldn't have resisted a fursuitng team...
Is he gone yet?
*major return hugs*
I'd go to people and ask them something about the area, and they wouldn't even SAY anything to me.
Some people really need to lighten up and leave room for imagination.
They must lead fairly boring lives, otherwise. :c
As furries, it is our duty to keep things interesting.
And I sure would have given you directions!
And thank youuu. XD
If you are not amused by a drunk, sassy JRT puppet then
you have no soul.
And thanks for the beer and hugs.
I so wanna' suit with you...
but if you openly crack a joke about it, the least they could do is smile and maybe even chuckle. bollocks on them!
Then the dog made a bad joke and he
was glad I didn't live in his back yard...
*fires up the BBQ*
Maybe they thought you were sponsoring something? Like a Jehovah's witness, but you were for animal rights or something and they didn't wanna hear the speech.
They've just lost the ability to appreciate the sillier things in life.
They've grown up.
It's sad when people grow up...
I'm growing older but not up.
Who wants to be old and serious anyway?
BACK IN MY DAY
WE ONLY HAD 150 POKEMON.
Get those pokemons off my lawn!
You kids...*mutters*
hahaha.
"Oh don't mind grandma, he's just senile."
didn't catch that...
i mean...
it was an eye test.
on your behalf.
yes...
you passed...
Thank you for watching out for me!
But you can still call me grandma if you want...
Grandma you passed your eye test!
of taking her to Children's Hospital with me in suit.
Probably would have to practice that a bit first...
That would be so cool if you did dress up in suit and bring her! Is she ok with the suit, or does she get nervous?? One of my dogs loves my suit but the other not so much... and my cats get terrified lol.
of me walking them in suit. Or perhaps they were walking me?
Anyway, not much phases the therapy dog.
I just wonder how the kids would react to such a sight...
You get to step outside yourself and
let your inhibitions go free...
Just keep it up; spread the love
Anyone ever do that to you?
As I termed my father, some people become old farts before they ever get to the age of actually being an old fart. That sadly, was my dad.
I, on the other "paw", am a 57...58 in a few days, "middle aged white lion with a little cubbie happily living inside my heart.
It's happened to me, don't take it "fursonally", just continue to be yer lovable self and they just had a "missed opportunity".
--Hugs from de' lion!
I thought of you when this happened- I'm sure you've dealt with
it many times over the years. And I knew you would have a good
perspective on things.
You're growing older but not up. And that is awesome!
Gotta love his resolve...
What other explanation could there be? ;D If only I had a suit, I'd do it at my school.
"Yes, Mr. Underwood? You need to stop barking."
"Fine. Bite me. ;("
And I think the world would be a damn fine place if
furries ran the show... Perhaps a little disorganized,
but a lot of fun!
Nobody suspects the cute and cuddly doggie, or foxy, or lion or tiger... Da' furry be a stealthy creature. We shall slowly but surely infiltrate and then, much to all the hooman's surprise, de' wold shall be ev'a fluffy! "Muwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...
"Smile an' wave boys, smile an' wave..."
Felt a little put out at the time, but
all these great comments made me feel better.
So I thank you!
Wish you had been there and not them. *hugs*
I've also noticed you can really tell people's 'comfort zone' (for lack of correct term) in which they operate. Some folks only notice things close to them, others spot you from long distances. I always found that really interesting!
I've also noticed that the proximity of an unexpected
fursuit also amplifies that comfort zone...
..no i wont go there LOL.
I like how the old lady is actually PRETENDING.
Thats lawlz. XD
And thanks of the nice comment!
But I get down to SD from time to time.
I want to go suiting in the gas lamp district!
Fix'd. :)
clacking together in the breeze.
I would have fist bumped you till the cows came home.
support. I'll take all the fist bumps I can get...
Christ would have turned the other cheek, so
I will take that as a lesson and give 'em a break.
Besides, it made for a great submission!
Oh yeah, made for a sweet submission! It's amazing that you have apparently a lot of courage to walk around in suit.
Some call it weird.
Either way....
Either way, as long as I get a good public reaction, I'm happy.
You're not hurting anybody in the process, so no problem at all. The least they could have done was be polite and smile.
All in good fun.
I need to get a fursuit. Lol.
Your pictures are really funny and fun. :)
Thank you for the kind words.
And it is- it's the Newport Pier.
Beautiful fur! It's a shame that people get so shy around you. I think I would too, but I wouldn't ignore something so awesome! lol
I'm not that tall, it's just the ears...
