This character is named Aisling. She's a dreaming angel; a guardian angel who safeguards the dreams from nightmare demons, among other things. She has a sister angel, one of MedicatedCannibal's characters, born from the same song as Aisling but of a different choir, one blessed/cursed with a very unique magical talent; a talent that could be used for great, almost deific good or truly infernal evil.
On consult of the highest ranked archangels, MedicatedCannibal's character was locked away in a heavenly prison with the intention of protecting creation. No one was told, not even Aisling. And naturally Aisling didn't take the disappearance of her sister lightly. In a span of time that could only make sense to an angel, Aisling investigated and with the help of another angel named Viola (another character of mine), she discovered where her sister was being held captive and made a plan to rescue her.
Unfortunately, in that time, the Hells had also caught word of MedicatedCannibal's character and had plotted their own kidnapping. Aisling and Viola's rescue attempt was moments too late; MedicatedCannibal's character was taken by demons down into Hell.
Eventually the sisters would reunite, countless centuries later. Or minutes? What is time to an ageless being, after all. (But it really was a very long time.) Another jailbreak, this time from the Hells, would be conducted. And most curiously, this time aid one of the demonic captor of Aisling's sister who had developed feelings for his prisoner and wanted out of Hell himself. But that's another story altogether. XD
This picture takes place during that time after Aisling failed to rescue her sister from her heavenly prison, in that painful period before learning where she was being held in Hell. Though she would continue to do her duties, protecting dreams, she would never stop looking for her beloved sister. Never stop feeling the ache of her absence. There were times when the hope waned and she hurt was so much that she wanted to give up, but she never did. Never could.

There is also some deeper RL symbology to it that is more personal, touching on grief and loss that I don't entirely want to get into at the moment but has strong thematic resonance with the narrative of these characters. But that also makes this piece especially beautiful and meaningful to me. The emotion of it is so layered and earnest that I genuinely cried while I was watching her draw it.
