Oh hello, it's been a while since I posted here. Sorry about that...
I'm surprisingly passionate about "your character here" images, especially when everyone and their mom has one that they constantly advertise and clog up the browse page with. It's even worse when they're socalled "unlimited", since that means the artist will never stop reposting the advertisement.
To be honest, I'd rather they get their own section on the site, or failing that, that we get even tighter restrictions on spam on FA, but that's out of my control, so here's a little satirical comic about it instead.
For anyone else bothered by the spam those submissions generate, I have good news: there's a browser extension that can deal with most of it, called Filter Affinity. It doesn't make FA do anything about it, but it will help keep the issue mostly out of sight for you.

The current state of the furry fandom and the online art community in general is so fucking commercialized it's not even funny. Furaffinity feels more like a billboard as of late than an actual community, YCHs are basically a way for popufurs to maximize profit while minimizing effort where all value on it is the fact it's from a popular artist. YCH is basically just the successor to P2U bases from how I see it. I also don't like how FA has been pandering to these people with recent updates trying to be all "official" and "business-like" while ignoring problems and requested features people have been mentioning for years, it makes me want to move over to SoFurry despite SoFurry being less active.
To be fair, commercialization is an attempt by artists to make a living off of their passion, even if some of their methods are distasteful. Art is probably more viable now than ever before as a career choice; unfortunately, cheap carbon-copy art like unlimited YCH and P2U bases are a side effect of that accessibility. It's easy for the artist, and the clients know what they'll get in advance.
But there's not much to be done about it, so satire's all I have to contribute to the discussion.
