While I have a huge soft spot for skunks, they rarely seem to make it into my art projects. For shame!!
Kappy gave me a chance to make amends, and I drew her very own skunk girl at some street-side cafe/diner that looks just about perfect for those nights the rain manages to hold off.
I would have hoped for a couple trips to the big city this year, but all travel plans have been dutifully axed for now. This is where a bit of drawing can help fill in the gaps ^^
(Also, FA lists skunks as mustelids??)

More precisely, not up to date. They were given their own family fairly recently (and the puma was split into its own genus about the same time) so not everything is current.
The puma thing was so recent that it shifted between one class year and the next, and I was able to use it as an example of science changing as new data were developed.

This kind of update happens with frustrating regularity these days. Now that we're fully in the age of molecular taxonomy and all >.< Some of the microbes I studied in undergrad (which only have scientific names) have since been placed in a different genus. Confusion ensues.
There's a running jokes that taxonomists are doing their best to keep themselves in business.

MY GOD I still CANNOT wrap my mind around how STELLAR THIS IS!!! Your perspective makes my heart gush! Theres such an incredible mood in this piece, between the colours, the composition and the low angle with Kappy - its so intimate and lively. I absolutely adore this, Kalahari. Thank you so much
Lovely! -And yeah, I'm partial to piss-foxes. 'Specially considering my main characters are partially skunk, the other part being fox.
Also, as others have mentioned, they're still mustelids, just defined more precisely as the sub-family mephitid.
And they're definitely musty!
