Decided that it was for the most part done. Or at least I was done working on it. There are some thing I really like how it turned out, particularly the tails and the shirt and others like the hair and the lightning effects that I was a very solid "meh" on. I do gotta say I really like the fur effect that I was doing. I think the way I was doing the fur looks really, really nice, but it is very time consuming and I probably need a lot more work on it to get it to the point of being able to do it to a consistent quality. There is more that I probably could do with it, but at this point I've been working on it every Sunday for 3 months (Started drawing on it on April 12), so I kind of want to be done with it.
For reference, what I was doing is I set the brush size to fade (it'd shrink as the stroke went on) and then would just pick one color at medium opacity and go over the area. Then change color and do it again. And just keep doing this until it was done. The darker colors were applied more liberally away from the light, and lighter colors applied more liberally close to the light. And it created that nice little blended changing in color that is present, but is far slower than flat color, add in some fur-like strokes then just go over with a darker and lighter color in separate layers and just smudge them out.
Background was done in a program called GeoVox (I might use it again for simple backgrounds, but it was kind of frustrating to fight to get it to do what I wanted, so for more complex ones, I'm probably better off figuring out how to do it in Blender, or do it by hand) and everything else was drawn by hand in Photoshop CC. Total time spent is probably around 40-50 hours.
