A couple of months ago, I posted an image of a set of semaphore signals preserved on what was the Ogmore Vale railway line, which you can find here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/36744459/ . This image shows another set of semaphore signals, only these ones are currently in use on trains operating in the Llynfi Valley up to Maesteg from Bridgend. This particular set of signals stands just outside of Tondu station, and is used to indicate the availability of the line following, which is single tracked. Why they haven’t yet installed more modern lights, I have no idea! But it’s nice to see this little piece of history preserved, and kept in good order.
Also different from the previous post I made, these red signals are stop signals rather than distant signals. This means that when the signal is horizontal, the oncoming train must stop, and when the signal is at an angle, the train may proceed. This signal you see on the right will for the foreseeable future be kept at ‘stop’, because the line it serves is now closed.
Hope you enjoy!
