I LOVED this movie so much when I was a kid! Still watch it every now and then :3
This movie also had one of my favourite adaptations into Italian for a cartoon. Italian dubbers and translators routinely collaborate with musicians to make new music too. Already in the early 2000's we had famous (and quite good) bands and singers playing and singing music for cartoons :3
The Italian song they used for this movie is still one of my favourites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flIyTtoY7Ow
Kind of want to get a commission like this myself now O.O

Dubbing and adaptation is taken very seriously in Italy. Dubbers are proper actors with acting backgrounds – in film and/or theatre roles – and they are usually assigned an actor for life. So most of the time you see an actor on screen, they have the same Italian voice.
Quite often the dubbing and adaptation are better than the original version. Frankenstein Junior was adapted so well that Gene Wilder thought it was funnier and better dialogued than his original script.
Music adaptation is very rare in non-kids films, but in cartoons it is quite common. Disney has always been incredibly good at this, all their films for children are adapted – if it makes sense of course – and they spare no expense to get high quality translators and dubbers. I still remember the music for Mulan or Tarzan and I honestly believe the Italian versions were better.
I don't even speak Italian in my life anymore, I use Danish in my daily life and English at work – and I actually know the latter better than Italian xD –, but I still download films in Italian if I can, and I always do it for cartoons.
