I would like to think that the rabbit thinks he's being nice in trying to give people who he often sees giving up a way out without costing them $300, but he's doing so in a way that doesn't respect Basil and could reinforce that quitting instinct, as he seems to expect him to give up.
I empathize with Basil, and I've also been in the rabbit's place before. It's easy to become jaded and not fully take into account another's feelings. Perhaps the rabbit has had to deal with a few angry clients wanting to quit and get their money back. Doesn't mean the pattern should hold, but at there's at least perhaps a reason behind the behavior.
Can't wait for the next page!
