Hopefully Rebrove's had a better time with the far superior options in this stack and didn't start with the Console That Shall Not Be Named, else it's going to color the whole experience. Personally I enjoy the whole lot, even the Virtual Boy, but I would have never said that back when it was first released.
celeste~ did a great job with this piece. I love that incredulous expression she's given my fox.

It's one of the more infamous oddities. It didn't exactly sell poorly, but in Nintendo terms it was a failure because it may have only pushed less than 800k units. With the retina-burning red, the prohibative, $250 price tag, and 22 games total it was asking way too much in its day. Nothing I've ever played on it necessitates the depth of field, it could all be presented way better on the Gameboy Advance. All that said, I got one years later and fixed its biggest failing point and I love playing with it. Wario Land deserves to be released somewhere else but probably never will, and Teleroboxer was unique with the controller. Those are worth at least emulating.
Yes, red was a bad color choice. Albeit, red doesn't burn retinae. It's blue light that burns because higher frequency waves have more energy--this is also why astronomers have computers with "red mode" so their night vision isn't ruined by the blue light from screens. (Trust me, I've done this. ;3 )
